Philosophies and Theories of Education

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course compromises of discussions on the philosophy of education and
analysis of the relationship between the theory and practice as well as theory
and philosophy. It will give emphasis to three problems in philosophy namely,
metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology of idealism, realism, reasons for
studying educational philosophy. The implications of idealism, realism,
experimentalism, existentialism, and postmodernism for educational goals,
curriculum, and instruction will also be considered. Further, there will be a
study of eastern philosophies, such as Indian thought, Chinese thought,
Japanese thought, Philippine thought, and middle eastern thought. Likewise,
a disccusion on current education trends/issues/problems in the Philippines
setting is included.

1. The significance, nature, and role of philosophy of education-

goals of education, curriculum,and instruction.
b. Make a strategic plan to enhance and restore the quality of education
brought about by the pandemic in your district.

Class Management Rules


1. Reports must be delivered on schedule
2. Prepare a power point presentation of group report, each one has a part/
task to discuss.( no discussion/ no output)
3. PPT should be submitted to the professor and shared to the members of
the class.
4. Follow the sequence/ order of report topic. At the end of the last slide, Cite
sources of the report and list alphabetically. Indicate the name of the topic and
reporters in charge.

5. Areas to be graded:
Examination 50%
Reporting/outputs/Participation 30%
Article review/attendance 20%
