What is Photoshop?
]Photoshop is a graphics program, which allows you to manipulate elements of
photographs from all sources
Copyright Issues
Never pass a copyrighted image off as your own, even if you have made changes
to the image
Be especially careful when publishing images to the web

Setting Up the Work Area
Selection Tools allow you to select a color, and drag and enclose a selection of
pixels of the image within a marquee.
Painting Tools allow you to add color, shadows, lines, and highlights to your
canvas.
The Path Tools allow you select and manipulate lines, shapes and Images.
The Type Tool allows you to add text to an image.
The Shape Tool allows you to draw various different shapes.
The Viewing Tools allow you to add Notes, Audio Annotation, Movement as well
as enlarging or decreasing the viewing area of your document.

The Layers Palette
allow you to make changes to an image without altering your original image data.
Channel Palette
Each Channel is an independent grayscale image of various colors in a picture.

Paths Palette
The Paths Palette exists on the equivalent of a distinct, object-oriented layer,
which sits in front of the bitmapped image.
History Palette
The History Palette records every significant operation (not including preferences
and settings) and stores them in a list.
Actions Palette
The Actions Palette allows you to record, play, edit, and delete individual actions.
Swatches Palette
The Swatches Palette allows you to collect colors for future use.
Styles Palette
With the Styles palette you can save layer effects and blending options by creating
layer styles.
Character Palette
The Character Palette provides options for formatting characters.
Opening and Saving Files
Photoshop can open and save in various file formats.
Formats are ways of saving the information in a file so the file can be used in
other applications.
Either for Printing or Web page usage.
If you want to work on a digital image, simply click on File -> Open, and then
browse to the file and double-click to open it
If you want to work on a printed image, you must first scan the image in to a
digital format
You can also create an image from scratch by clicking File -> New
Resizing Images
Click on Image, then Image Size to resize the image
You can Constrain Proportions
You can choose the size unit type before resizing
Transforming Images
Used to make geometric changes to a selection
Select the part of the image to which you want to apply a Transformation
Click on Edit > Transform and choose a Transform type

Using Layers
Layers allow you to make changes to part of an image without affecting other
parts
The Layers palette shows all of the layers in an image and allows layer-specific
editing
You can change the visibility of a layer, adjust the layer’s blending options and
stack layers in a different order
When editing multi-layer documents, always make sure you have the proper layer
selected!
JPEG, the most popular image format, does not support layers. If you save an
image as JPEG, the layers will merge down into a single layer
Combining Images
Photoshop allows you to combine multiple images into a single image, using layers
Extract the necessary parts of one or more foreground images by selecting
Filter>Extract, then drawing an outline to create a selection and filling in the
shapes
You can then copy and paste the extracted image(s) onto the background image
by choosing Select All, then Copy on the source image and Paste on the
destination image as followed :
Open 2 picture files (A.jpg = contain any object & B. jpg = contain
background image)
Click Filter > Extract
Use paint Brush to draw an enclosed outline of the object on A.jpg
Use Paint Bucket to fill in the selected area
Hit OK
Select > Select All
Edit > Copy the selected object
Edit > Paste to B. jpg

Work with Type
Open file *.jpg
Select the Text tool
On Options bar (Arial Black font ,150 pt size, Centered alignment and
Green color)
Type Earth
Select the text layer in the Layers Palette
Right click the layer and select Blending Options
Check Drop Shadow and Bevel
Hit OK
Select the Text Warp tool on the options bar
Pick arch, then (Bend -45, Horizontal 0, Vertical -20)
Hit OK
