Direction of Technological
Advancement and its application
Ø Today’s technology is advancing rapidly in everywhere
in the world both positively and negatively, making it
subjective, changing our lifestyle with high efficiency of
productive operation, and simplifying access to various
margins of facets.
Ø While quality of life has improved in specific ways,
mostly, it has only given an indicative illusion of
enhancing the quality of life without actually doing so.
Ø Artificial intelligence is a new technical discipline that
researches and develops theories, methods,
technologies, and application systems for simulating
the extension and expansion of human intelligence.
The main objective is to let machines perform some
complex tasks that require intelligent humans to
complete in an efficient manner.
AI-one of the main
weapon for Industry 4.0
Ø Industry 4.0 has the potential to be a powerful driver of
economic growth, predicted to add between $500 billion- $1.5
trillion in value to the global economy between 2018 and
2022, according to a report by Capgemini.
Ø In the era of Industry 4.0, AI is one of the emerging
technologies already being utilised by manufacturers to
improve product quality, efficiency and for cutting down on
operating costs.
Ø Main objective of AI is to see a working relationship between
humans and robots, an area which is benefiting from the
usage of AI in different industries and in the manufacturing
plants too.
Ø The smart factory or different enterprises, which are made up
of hyper-connected production processes consists of various
machines that all communicate with one another, relying on AI
automation platforms to collect and analyse all types of data
as per their requirements.
Impact of AI on industry 4.0
Ø Just-in-time manufacturing: AI-driven manufacturing systems
can produce solutions in an adaptive way to the order. Sensors
track components by ordering them according to demand patterns
and increase the turnaround time as well.
Ø New products introduction: Production lines converted to
information systems that feed decision making on issues as
central as the product line. This helps in adaptation to demand,
making it easier to change from the raw materials entering the
factory process to the final product leaving it.
Ø Changes in consumption: Consumers are connected to the
industry through information networks, solutions and experiences
for a higher quality products and level of personalisation. On the
other hand, manufacturers are able to produce customised
products, solutions without losing efficiency with the help of
digital architectures and intelligent production with quality
solutions.
Ø Evolution of labour markets: With the advent of AI technology,
the demand of ‘Data Scientist’ is increasing day by day. The
labour model is evolving more towards the analytical and
qualified applicants in the field of technology, which could be a
factor or key to mitigate unemployment.

Some of the important AI technologies:
Natural Language Generation & Speech Recognition
● Natural Language Generation is a sub discipline of AI that converts text into
data and helps the systems to communicate ideas and thoughts as clearly
as possible.
● It is used in customer service, widely, to create reports and market
summaries. Companies like Attivio, Automated Insights, Cambridge
Semantics, Digital Reasoning, Lucidworks, Narrative Science, SAS and
Yseop offer Natural Language Generation.

is witnessed often nowadays and is growing rapidly. Companies like NICE,
Nuance Communications, OpenText and Verint Systems offer speech
recognition services.
Robotic process automation
● Robotic Process Automation refers to the functioning of corporate processes
due to the mimicking human tasks and automate them.
● Robotic Process Automation is the technology that allows anyone today to
configure computer software, or a “robot” to emulate and integrate the actions
of a human interacting within digital systems to execute a business process.
● RPA robots utilize the user interface to capture data and manipulate
applications just like humans do. They interpret, trigger responses and
communicate with other systems in order to perform on a vast variety of
repetitive tasks.
Marketing Automation
● Marketing automation is technology that manages marketing processes and
multifunctional campaigns, across multiple channels, automatically
● With marketing automation, businesses can target customers with
automated messages across email, web, social, and text.
● Marketing and sales departments use marketing automation to automate
online marketing campaigns and sales activities to both increase revenue
and maximise efficiency.
● Marketing automation helps with lead generation, nurturing, and scoring, as
well as with measuring overall ROI on campaigns.
● The time- and cost-saving effects of automation increase as an organisation
grows and complexity. Good marketing automation systems are designed to
scale alongside your business
Text Analytics and Natural Language Processing (NLP)
● Natural Language Processing focuses on the interactions between human languages
and computers.
● It uses text analytics to analyse the structure of sentences as well as their interpretation
and intention through machine learning.
● This technology is widely adopted in fraud detection and for security systems. Many
automated assistants and applications derive unstructured data by NLP.
● Basis Technology, Expert System, Coveo, Indico, Knime, Lexalytics, Linguamatics,
Mindbreeze, Sinequa, Stratifyd and Synapsify are some of the service providers
Emotion Recognition and Image Recognition
● Emotion Recognition enables emotions expressed by humans to be read and
interpreted using advanced image processing or audio data processing.
● Some companies who use emotion recognition are Beyond Verbal, nViso and
Affectiva.
● Image recognition refers to the process of identifying and detecting a feature in a video
or an image
● It can help the process of image searches greatly as well as detect license plates,
diagnose diseases and study personalities.
● Clarifai, SenseTime and GuGum’s provide this technology service.
Use cases of Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Multi-language translation:
By using NLP, large scale accurate translations can be done in real-time.
It can automatically translate text messages, emails, subtitles and others.
This can help to reduce the language barrier hence making communication
seamless.
Spelling and Grammar Checker
Spelling and grammar checker use NLP to determine the accuracy of a
given text. For this to happen, dictionary and syntactical analyzers are
used.
Auto complete
Auto complete service can be seen in applications like Gmail. It uses NLP
to predict what the user will want to write next and gives recommendations
accordingly.
General textual analysis
By analyzing a text for example an e-mail via NLP, what kind of mail it is.
Is the mail important or is it a spam. All this can be done via NLP.
Sentiment Analysis
In sentimental analysis the general public sentiment is estimated.
This is used primarily in social media sites. One can find out the
sentiment of users at a particular time by analysing the text posted.
Companies can use it to gauge the people’s response towards an
event and act accordingly.
Chatbot
In chatbot a computer replies to text messages instead of a person.
This is nowadays very prominent in customer care and service
domain. The chatbots are becoming more and more interactive every
day.
Speech Recognition
This is the most seen NLP application. Everyone is talking to Alexa
and Siri nowadays. These talking assistants are very complex to
make and use NLP extensively to properly understand the user’s
speech.
