Exercise B3 Introductory Experimental Dynamics: Authors: Submitted (Date) : 2019-09-23 Approved by (Name/date)

This document contains an introductory experimental dynamics assignment. It includes 4 tasks that analyze signals in the time and frequency domains. The tasks examine a harmonic wave signal, the Nyquist frequency, adding noise to a signal, and filtering a noisy signal. Graphs and calculations are shown for each task. The document demonstrates basic concepts of signal processing including the discrete Fourier transform, absolute value, Nyquist frequency, adding noise, and filtering.

According to the results, the peak height in frequency domain is exactly the same as the amplitude in
the time domain (0.84 for both). This is because the signal only contains one harmonic wave, after fast
Fourier Transform, there is still the same harmonic signal with the same amplitude.
It is necessary to obtain the absolute value of X as X contains both real and imaginary part. In order to
compare the results of the amplitudes, we need the absolute value to return the complex magnitude.
