"Hot Fuzz": The Two Instances in Hot Feeling Are Observed As Follows

Nicholas Angel is transferred from the city of London to a small village by his jealous superiors. The film uses different editing techniques to convey different tones. One scene shows Angel traveling from London to the village with short cuts that highlight his expression of frustration, while also making the journey seem mobile. At the end, close up shots of characters are cut together with the rhythm of horse's footsteps to build tension between Angel and the villagers as he arrives. It remains unclear if the swan in the final chase scene was real or a model.

“HOT FUZZ” by Edgar Wright

“Hot Fuzz” is an Comedy/Action-pact film wherein Police officer Nicholas Angel is the main
protagonist .In movie, his seniors, who are jealous of his achievements, transfer him to a
remote village where he encounters various challenges.  The two instances in Hot
Fuzz scenes or sequences in which distinct editing strategies effect different tonal or generic
feeling are observed as follows:-

1] A moment in the film wherein something dull is made interesting through editing is when
Angel travels from London to Sanford. Like the opening, it is edited in short cuts. The
viewers laughs at Angel’s consistent bummer expression as he gets more and more out into
the countryside. In the shots there is little motion, but the setting changing around Angel
show that he is definitely going from one place to the other. And while this scene might
contain little motion, visually, the hard cuts in audio helps to give the images a feeling of
mobility.

Moreover at the very end of film the scene begins with zooming close up, fade out shots of
each character in various locations which matches the rhythm of the horse’s footsteps along
road, which the main protagonist is sitting on. The editor cuts from the villagers back to
angel, and builds the tension for the audience between him and the villagers. Also, there is a
pause before he gets off the horse which adds suspense an thrill to the atmosphere…The
swan named Elvis seen in the final chase scene was a real swan or a model stays mystery for
me, even though it sometimes looks like one.
