Worksheet No. 10
Multiplying Numbers up to 3 – Digit Numbers by up to 2 –
Digit Numbers without Regrouping

MELC: Multiplies numbers up to 3-digit numbers by up to

2-digit numbers without regrouping
Code: M4NS-Ic-44.2

Discussion:

How do you multiply a 3 –digit multiplicand by a 2-digit

multiplier without regrouping?

1. Multiply all the digits in the multiplicand from

right to left by each digit in the multiplier.
2. Add the partial products to get the final
product.
Example: 231 X 23 = ___________

Solution 1: By using short method.

231 Step 1 231 Step 2

X23 Multiply 231 by 3. X 23 Multiply 231 by 2.
693 693
462 Leave the ones
place blank.
231
X23
693 Step 3
+ 462 Add the partial products.
5313
Solution 2: By using the Long Method
This method uses the distributive property of
multiplication over addition.

231 X 23 = (200 + 30 + 1) X 20 + (200 + 30 + 1) X 3

= (200 X 20) + (30X 20) +(1X20) + (200X3)
+ ) (30X3) + (1X3)
= 4000 + 600 + 20 + 600
+ 90 + 3

= 5,313

1. First, write the multiplicand and the multiplier in

expanded form.
2. Next, multiply the digit in the ones place by the
multiplicand.
3. Then, multiply the digit in the tens place by the
multiplicand.
4. Lastly, add all the products.

Examples:
212 22 312 Multiplicand
X 2 X 13 X 12 Multiplier
424 66 624
+ 22 +312 Partial Product
286 3744
