LESSON 1: TEACHING AS A PROFESSION

1. By the use of a graphic organizer, present the elements of a profession.


2. Why does a profession like teaching require long years of initial professional
development after that long arduous initial professional education?

- A profession like teaching require long years of initial professional development after
that long arduous initial professional education because educators must understand
the concepts in processing professional development and what it means to education.
Meaning it refers to the development of a person in his or her professional role.
Professional development and other organized in-service programs are designed to
foster the growth of teachers that can be used for their further development. It takes
such long years because of its in-service trainings simply consisted of workshops or
short term courses that offered teachers new information on specific aspects of their
work, professional workshops and other formally related meetings are a part of the
professional development experience. For us to be able to give more service, which is
the end goal of profession, acquiring initial professional development is a must no
matter how long it takes.

3. By way of an acrostic, explain the elements of a profession:

P rofessional Development is the process of improving and increasing capabilities through


training opportunities.
R esponsibility for designing, implementing, evaluating educational program and meeting the
professional and ethical standard in engagement to others.
O bserved proper code of ethics to apply for proper behaviour.
F easibility to achieve proper training and workshop for development.
E nd goal of profession is service.
S pecialized body of knowledge and skills that are acquired during a prolonged period of
education and training.
S ervice orientation that implies diagnostic skill, competent application of general
knowledge.
I f you taking teaching as profession, it means that one must be willing to go through a long
period of preparation and a continuing professional development.
O rganized in-service programs are designed to foster the growth of teachers that can be used
for their further development
N ecessary to acquire initial professional development to develop professional roles.
