I. PLANNING PHASE

A. RATIONALE
There is a specific emphasis on and increase in the reading texts in
order to prepare students to read, write and research across
subjects. As students read more complex texts, analyzing and
understanding them in deeper ways, strengthen their knowledge of
all subjects.

OBJECTIVES
Provide reading education to all students that results in
exceptional reading achievement.

Activity 1 Details and Procedure:
Read A-loud
Reading aloud can allow students to practice the skills of expressive reading
(comprising all of the variables of timing, emphases and intonation).
Procedure:
• Let the student read loudly and clear an unfamiliar text.
• Read the text with right expression.
• Students who are anxious or distressed by reading aloud in the class
setting, are given opportunities to read aloud in small setting.
• Students are presented with text which is at the “just-right; level for them.

Activity 2 Details and Procedure:


Reading Buddies
Reading buddies builds a collaborative and supportive classroom environment.
Where students can be more comfortable in accepting their mistakes when it comes
from their peer than from a teacher.
• Ask the student to name someone as his/her reading buddies.
• When the students are stuck on the word, the reading buddy helps
• If neither the students can read the word, the teacher provides it
• For those with several difficulties the buddy can read aloud in a quiet voice then
the target student can read in a louder voice.

Activity 3 Details and Procedure:


Mind Mapping
A type of brain storming where readers place the title or subject as the main idea,
then develop a mind map around it.
• Give a book or link of the story.
• Let the pupils read the story individually.
• Create a mind map or concept map with regards to the story that they have just
read by using the title as a main idea.
Activity 4 Details and Procedure:
Chronological Sequences
A chronological list of event or action.
• Read or watched a story or events.
• Let the students create the correct sequence of the story or events.
• They can write it in the paper or tell it to the front.
Activity 5 Details and Procedure:
Word Journal
It is a type of journal that help pupils to keep track of new words that you learn as
you read.
• Ask the pupil to make a journal and bring it everyday.
• Let them write the unfamiliar words that they heard, watched, and read
everyday.
• Let them share what unfamiliar word they have learned and give the meaning of
it.
• And ask them to use it in the sentences.
