It’s easy and anyone can make it. You don’t even have to spend a peso to buy a
material because you can recycle old big pots from your pantry or kitchen.
I am a frugal mom too and I know how it feels when the budget is no longer enough.
With the continuous price hike for different commodities. We need to be wiser in
spending every peso we have in our pocket.
The good news is, we can now provide homemade delicious pizza, bread and cakes for
our family even without an oven. You don’t even need to buy an oven.
With improvised baking, you can start selling breads and pastries right away. This will
surely help you increase your income.
In fact, a number of moms have already started earning extra income by selling food
they learned from our website and Mama’s Guide Recipes (Official Group).
To help more moms in baking without the traditional oven. I have compiled some of

You can use an old thick large pot or kaserola and place a wire rack (parilya or
patungan na bakal or stainless) inside the pot. Do not use a “stainless pot” because it
burns easily. If you use low heat, there is nothing to worry because it will not burn pot.
Note: There is no need to add water. Just place the wire rack (parilya or patungan na
bakal) inside the pot and place the baking pan on top of it. The wire rack is not on a
standing position but inverted. It is just a few cm away from the bottom of the pot.
Please make sure your baking pan is heat resistant or you may use Lanera. Do not use
plastic pans.
Preheat the pot for 5 minutes before placing the brownies inside the pot. Use low fire
and be patient. Yes patience is important. (Use of medium heat can burn/toast your
brownies because the pan is near the bottom of the pot.).
Make sure to cover the pot so the heat is concentrated on your pan while you are
baking it. Let it bake for about 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center of
brownies comes out clean.

20 minutes and set it to low for 40 minutes. Total baking time is 1 hour.

ng toothpick para makita if luto na.”

This “oven de uling” is in vertical position like a refrigerator on top of the charcoal pot.
The large tin can were sliced on the top, bottom and one side to serve as the oven door.
The metal rack inside are steel metal that were installed by making small holes on both
side of the body. This is were you place the baking pan.
With this oven, you can save more money on gas and electricity.
You may need an assistance from male family members to make this Lata Oven for
you. Inside the oven you can see the steel rack where place on top with little support
underneath and is removable.
A blower dynamo is also installed for easy control of the heat. You can search youtube
on how to make “Kalan De Uling with Blower making” for complete guide and
instructions.
You can use a large old pot and add some gravel or stones, then add a small pot in the
center to serve as a pedestal for your baking pan. Do the same process in baking.
Preheat the pot until very hot, then carefully add your baking pan in the center. Here
you can easily adjust medium to low heat because the pan is elevated. Your baking will
purely rely on air heat inside the pot.
In the province, use of charcoal burning in soil is their traditional way of cooking. The
charcoal is burned under the soil and the pot is place on top. In this case, the improvise
oven tin can is place on top of soil oven.
Using a large kawali, place a wire rack inside the kawali (parilya sa tagalog or patungan
