1. EXPERIENCE: Research and list down some music appreciation activities that
can be used in class.

2. CHALLENGE: In your own words, how do you define music appreciation? 
- In our own understanding, Music appreciation is about how we enjoy music, how we
interpret every lyrics or message of it, knowing what emotion is being conveyed, as well as
the instruments they used and the composer and its purpose in composing that music. In
addition, we can appreciate and value music through understanding of its different genres
or styles knowing the benefits it brings in our life.
3 HARNESS: Look at the following musical concepts. Think of what music
appreciation activities may be used to teach these.

MUSIC CONCEPTS POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES


Dynamics (loud and soft sounds) -play recording of lullaby to teach soft sounds
-play recording of a marching brass band on
parade to teach loud sounds
-ask a student to sing a song alone
-ask a student to sing the same song as a
group
-using shouts and whispers alternately with
the lyrics of particular song
High and Low Pitches -use animal sounds as a tool because children
love animals
Example: Birds TWEET – high
Cows MOO – low
Cat’s MEOW – high
Frogs RIBBIT – low
-use instrument to be played like
XYLOPHONES
-sing them a song that have high and low
pitches
Fast and Slow Tempo -play them a song with fast and slow tempo
-make them sing a fast song and a slow song
-use instrument like drum set to play an

Orchestral Instruments and their Different -ask them to bring instruments that are
