COURSE
OVERVIEW

WHAT IS
CPE?
The bachelor of science in Computer
Engineering is a course for individuals who
are interested in creating something through
technology may it be software, hardware or
processes. It is a four-year degree where
computer science and electrical engineering
is combined together. It is one of top-in
demand career for young aspirants. It covers
topics on how to design a microprocessor
and develop embedded systems that are
used in desktops or handheld devices. The
program also equips students with the ability
to analyze, plan, design, install, operate and
maintain digital devices, computer hardware,
and software systems. In this field your logical
and reasoning skills are required. Since
computer engineering integrates computer
science and electrical engineering you will
also be exposed to a lot of programming and
electronic circuits.

ARE WE GOING TO HAVE A FACE-TO-FACE

CLASSES?
There will be NO face-to-face classes for the first semester
of A.Y 2021-2022. The delivery of instruction shall be through
Flexible Learning with the use of USTeP as the official learning
management system(LMS). Instructors may also use other
platforms and offline modes to enhance your learning

WHAT IS FLEXIBLE LEARNING?

“Flexible Learning” is a term referred to in Sec. 3 of RA 10650
as another description of distance education which is “a mode
of learning in which students and teachers are physically
separated from each other. It is student-centered, guided
independent study, making use of well-studied teaching and
learning pedagogies to deliver well-designed learning
materials.” In the case of USTP, students can access course
contents (syllabi, resources, activities) on-line or off-line

CLASS SCHEDULE?
NO. Flexible learning is both synchronous and asynchronous.
Most activities are asynchronous which means you are given
the learning resources and activity guide for you to do at your
own pace while still adhering to deadlines set by the teachers.
Your teacher may conduct synchronous activities where
students have to be online (e.g. video conference). These shall
be announced ahead of time.

WHY COMPUTER ENGINEERING DOES NOT

HAVE A BOARD EXAMINATION?
The BS in Computer Engineering does not have a board
examination yet for PRC. However, graduates may opt to take
the Civil Service Examination (CSE) conducted by the
Philippine Civil Service Commission (PCSC) to qualify for
working in government offices. Some graduates opt to take a
Master’s degree followed by a Doctorate degree to gain
expertise in the industry.

WHAT ARE THE CERTIFICATION

PROGRAMS BEING GIVEN BY CPECB?
CpECB gives two types of certifications: Certified Computer
Engineer (CCpE) and Professional Computer Engineer (PCpE).
CCpE is given to those CpE graduates with less than 10 years
of professional practice while PCpE is the certification that can
be given to those with at least 10 years of professional

My experience as a freshman student inspires me greatly to take part in the creation of the
CPE handbook because our freshman year is what we can consider the beginning of our
rollercoaster ride (road to reaching our dreams - to be a Computer Engineer). To survive, we
must be cognizant of the do's and don'ts, as well as what's inside and why we take the ride.
For me, the CpE handbook will be incredibly beneficial to freshmen, it may only provide an
