Chapter 1

Introduction

This chapter presents the overview of the study, purpose and description of the study,

statement of the problem, objective of the study, and also the scope and limitations of the study.

Project Context

Today’s world is an information-rich world and it has become a necessity for everyone to

know about computers. The discovery of the computer is a great function of modernity to make

work easier, more capable, and more adaptable to the people. It has brought a new level of

knowledge that became the new standard in the industry. A computer is an electronic data

processing device, which accepts and stores data input, processes the data input, and generates

the output in a required format. The ability of computers to follow generalized sets of operations,

called programs, enables them to do an extremely wide range of tasks.

An Information system is a collection of components that work together to provide

information to help in the operations and management of an organization. Other organizations

rely on information systems to carry out and manage their operations and information.

Information systems are interrelated components working together to collect, process, store, and

disseminate information to support decision making, coordination, control, analysis, and

visualization in an organization. These systems quickened the pace of daily activities and

enabled people to develop.

The researchers are determined to come up with a system that will change all the

barangay existing manual system into a very accurate and competent Barangay Information

System. With this proposed system, it will help save time. The researchers are going to create
this system seeing that it can provide an easier and effective way of managing the information

about the senior citizens and children ages 0 to 59 months old. This Information system is a

simple program designed to make the barangay officer’s jobs accurate, faster and more reliable.

Some people would seek some information they need that can only be found in the

barangay. With only manual processing it would take time to search information. But with the

aid of computer and information system it would greatly improve the time and result that you

will get. Information system would be of great help to the officers of the barangay to easily find

the information that they needed. It can also easily to identify the total numbers of individuals,

females and males.

The system is capable of storing and retrieving data and it can provide the names, gender,

ages, birthday, height and weight of the senior citizens and children who are living in Barangay

Carsuche, Taal, Batangas.


Purpose and Description

This project “Barangay Information Management System – Carsuche, Taal, Batangas”

will provide an alternative way of accessing the seniors and children’s information. This project

will be beneficial to the following:

 For the officers of the barangay. This will help them to easily seek information about

the seniors and children in Barangay Carsuche, Taal, Batangas.

 For the future researchers. This project will serve as reference in making their study

and will serve as their prime guide and inspiration in making their research in the future.

 For the students. This will serve as their additional knowledge and background about

computer programming.

Statement of the problem

The researchers of this study aim to answer the following questions to serve as their

guide in preparing the information that should be contained in their study.

1. What are the problems encountered by the barangay personnel in handling records

using the manual system?

2. What are the requirements needed in creating the Barangay Carsuche Information

System?

3. What solution can be suggested to solve the problem encountered by the respondents?
Objective of the study

This aims to develop and upgrade the manual information system in Barangay Carsuche,

Taal, Batangas.

Specifically, the study aims:

1. To know the problems encountered by the barangay personnel in handling records

using the manual system.

2. To determine the requirements needed in creating the Barangay Carsuche Information

System.

3. To know the solution that can be suggested to solve the problem encountered by the

respondents.

Scope and Limitations

The study will focus on a system that could help Barangay Carsuche, Taal, Batangas to

easily find and access the information about the senior citizens and children who are living

within the said location. The system is concerned in data manipulation of adding, deleting,

searching, and updating set of data and information. It can also easily identify the total numbers

of individuals, females and males in the barangay. The system can provide a printed copy of

documents when someone asks for it. It is necessary to have a hard copy of the information

because it was somehow in need when there are technical problems. This system will be of a

great help to them since their current process of information is manual.


However, the study does not include the financial transaction of the Barangay Carsuche,

Taal, Batangas like yearly financial statement.
