Assignment No 1 Site Visit To A Construction Project 1. 2. 3

The document discusses a site visit assignment to a construction project. It includes attaching photographs and detailing the site scheduling. Key documents to be studied during the visit are the project cash flow analysis, use of ERP software, work breakdown structure, and materials flow system. The project cash flow analysis examines cash inflows and outflows to determine a project's value and liquidity issues. The ERP software manages day-to-day business activities. The work breakdown structure breaks a project into deliverable components. And the materials flow system describes the transportation of materials as entities flowing through the supply chain.

Assignment No 1

Site Visit to a Construction project

1. Visit to a construction site and prepare a visit report with documents

2. Attach photographs and detail scheduling of visited site

3. Following documents will be studied during the site visit

A. ProjectCashFlowAnalysis.
B. Use of ERP Software
C. Work Break Down Structure
D. Materials Flow System in the Project.

Project Cash Flow:

Cash flows are often transformed into measures that give information e.g. on a company's
value and situation:

 To determine a project's rate of return or value. The time of cash flows into and out of
projects are used as inputs in financial models such as internal rate of return and net
present value.
 To determine problems with a business's liquidity. Being profitable does not necessarily
mean being liquid. A company can fail because of a shortage of cash even while
profitable.
 As an alternative measure of a business's profits when it is believed that accrual
accounting concepts do not represent economic realities. For instance, a company may be
notionally profitable but generating little operational cash (as may be the case for a
company that barters its products rather than selling for cash). In such a case, the
company may be deriving additional operating cash by issuing shares or raising
additional debt finance.
 Cash flow can be used to evaluate the 'quality' of income generated by accrual
accounting. When net income is composed of large non-cash items it is considered low
quality.
 To evaluate the risks within a financial product, e.g., matching cash requirements,
evaluating default risk, re-investment requirements, etc.

Cash flow notion is based loosely on cash flow statement accounting standards. the term is
flexible and can refer to time intervals spanning over past-future. It can refer to the total of all
flows involved or a subset of those flows. Subset terms include net cash flow, operating cash
flow and free cash flow.

Use of ERP Software:

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) refers to a type of software that organizations use to
manage day-to-day business activities such as accounting, procurement, project management,
risk management and compliance, and supply chain operations.

Work Breakdown Structure:

A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), in project management system and system

engineering, is a deliverable-oriented decomposition of a project into smaller components. A
work breakdown structure is a key project deliverable that organizes the team work into
manageable sections. The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) defines the work
breakdown structure as a “A hierarchical decomposition of the total scope of work to be carried
out by the project team to accomplish the project objective and creates the required deliverable.”

A work breakdown structure element may be product, data, services, or any combination
thereof. A WBS also provides the necessary framework for detailed cost estimating and control
along with providing guidance for schedule development and control.
Material Flow System:

Material flow is the description of transportation of raw material, pre-fabricates, parts,

component, integrated objects and final product as a flow of entities. The team applies mainly to
advance modelling of supply chain management.

As industrial material flow can easily become very complex, several different specialized
simulation tools have been developed for complex systems.
