5th Form

Visual Arts Curriculum


2020 – 2021
Term 1

Week 1 – Introduction and Journal Overview (Sept. 14-18)

First Session
Students will be briefed on
 Observations of the previous CSEC group (positives and negatives)
 Journaling
o What is the importance of journaling in Visual Arts?
o Requirement highlights of the CSEC Visual Arts Journal
 This discussion will take place over google meet or Zoom.

Second Session
 Writing about the theme
 State why you selected that theme
 Four or five students will be randomly selected to read their theme and their reason
for selecting such. This will allow each student to have a better understanding of
how to proceed with this section of the journal.
 Students will be given the second section for assignment (which is “The reason for
selecting those expressive forms) which they will present in the next double session
over google meet.

Week 2 – Artist Statement (Sept. 21- 25)

First Session
 Review examples of artist statements written by other artists online and critique
them.

 Assignment – The students will write their artist statements utilizing the questions
they will be given to answer in paragraph format, while also looking at the examples
discussed in class, to present next week in the double session.
Second Session
 The students will be randomly selected by the teacher to present their reason for
selecting their themes and they will receive feedback from their peers and teacher.

 Students will be engaged in discussing their expressive forms and researching


background information on the particular expressive areas chosen.

 For assignment: They will identify an artist that does the same expressive area that
they are doing and be ready to take notes of the particular aspects that they will
cover about the artists in our single session next week.

Week 3 – Artist Research (Sept. 28 – Oct. 2)

First Session
 Each student would have identified their artists from last class and would be ready
to take notes on what exactly they would be writing about them. This would involve
research and critiquing of the artists’ works.

 The artist research and critique will be uploaded unto google classroom within two
weeks from now, and be marked and feedback given to each student.

Second Session
The students will be randomly selected by the teacher to present their artist
statements and will receive feedback from their peers and teacher.
