Answer all the questions.
Q1. a) During a visit to a doctor’s chamber, the probability of having neither medical test, nor a [3]
referral to a specialist is 𝟐𝟑%. Of those coming to that chamber, the probability of having a
medical test is 𝟒𝟑% and the probability of having referral is 𝟔𝟏%. What is the probability
of having both medical test and referral?
b) Rapid testing is a screening procedure to test Covid-19. The people appearing in the test, [3]
𝟐𝟑% of them false-positive while 𝟏𝟕% of them false-negative. If the Covid-19 spreads
among 𝟕% people in bangladesh, find the probability of a person who is suffering in Covid-
19, when he/she tested negative in the test.
c) Each of four bowlers will attempt to hit the wicket and their probabilities to not hitting the [4]
wicket are 𝟎. 𝟑𝟑, 𝟎. 𝟐𝟕, 𝟎. 𝟓𝟑 and 𝟎. 𝟔𝟏, respectively. Find the probabilities that (i) exactly
two players are successful to hit, (ii) at least one player is successful to hit, (iii) no player is
successful to hit the wicket.
Q2. a) Let a random experiment be the casting of a pair of fair five-sided dice and let 𝑿 equal the [4]
maximum of two outcomes. With reasonable assumptions, find pmf of 𝑿. Also, find the
mean and variance of 𝑿.
b) It is claimed that 𝟑𝟕% of the people in a certain region are infected by severe virus attack. [3]
Suppose 𝟐𝟑 people are selected at random. Let 𝑿 equal to the number of people infected by
the virus. Assuming independence, how 𝑿 is distributed. Find the probability that (i) at least
𝟒 people are infected, (ii) at most 𝟐𝟎 people are infected.
