WHAT IS

ANALOGY ?

An analogy is a comparison between


two things that are usually thought to
be different from each other, but that
have something in common. The
purpose of analogy is not merely to
show, but also to explain.

ANALOGY FORMAT

In a formal academic analogy, four


items are separated by a series of
colons, as in the formula shown below:

two items on the right (items C & D) describe also a
relationship, and are also separated by a colon.
Together, both sides are then separated by two colons
