Gender & Society – Module 1 Lesson 1

Direction: Work on the activity in lesson 1 as well as its analysis question. While
working/answering on the activity, provide the following reflections:

1. Do any of your answers have to do with the innate biological ideas that concern
you being a girl or a boy? Or it discusses attitudes, appearances, characteristics,
or roles you identify yourself?

Upon answering the questions and tasks in the activity and analysis, I had
realized that my answers had a big impact on figuring out some innate biological
ideas that concern me being a girl or women. It was precisely discussing my attitude
like being so scared enough on normal things like what I`ve answered on the activity
that I do scare on ugly toys where it means that I have that girl`s attitude which is
being too soft and feminine. And also, appearances and characteristics like what I`ve
mentioned in the activity too which is about how I realized that I am a girl where I
answered that my mom had given me a pink dress, pink hair band and being too
sweet and lovable based on my favorite toys. Those answers that I had come up in
analysis also provides an innate biological idea that concern me being a girl because
all those expected roles I`ve mentioned in different institution was based on my
experienced at home, school, church and community. To sum it up, I had figured out
that being a girl like me is typically do and act in feminine ways and be polite,
accommodating, and nurturing.

2. Submit with a picture (either crop or drawing) you identify your gender that will
reflect how you perceive on the difference between Sex and Gender.

This picture shown above represents how I identify my gender based on my

attitude, appearances, characteristics, likes, loves to do and roles that makes me
myself happy, contented and complete. So based on the picture I identify my gender
as the pink one which represents the “girl gender” who has a bubbled-up things
about being a feminine one because of the cosmetics, shoes, accessories and soft
hobbies like playing badminton, go to beaches etc. Based on the idea I had figured
out about my gender; I do create a reflection about the difference between Sex and
Gender. So basically, both “sex” and “gender” are related to being a boy or a girl.
“Sex” is about a person’s body parts and how their body grows and develops which
means that it focuses on the physical growth of a oneself while if when we say
“Gender” it is about the socially constructed characteristics of women and men, such
as norms, roles, and relationships of and between groups of women and men which
means it focuses on the emotional identification of oneself that varies from society to
society and can be changed.
