Case 5. KUNDIMAN COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION:

Mr. Lonely

The Kundiman Communications Corporation (KCC) is a local company with more than
2,000 persons in its payroll. The company’s top management is composed of the President, the
Vice President for Marketing, the Vice President for Operations, and the Vice President for
Administration.

A member of the staff, Engineer Lorenzo de Guzman, an electronics engineering


graduate, has just received an order from his immediate superior, the VP for Operations, to head
the newly built telecommunication facility in Antipolo, Rizal. So far, he is the only company
personnel identified with the new facility. He was given three months to make the facility
operational.

Engineer De Guzman appraised that for the Antipolo unit to operate, it will require the
services of a number of persons skilled in the various activities that will be undertaken.

As he has been working with KCC for ten years(five years in the field and five years in
the head office), Engineer De Guzman is familiar with many aspects of the firm’s operation.
Some supervisors and three of the key officers are his friends.

Engineer de Guzman felt that the various trainings KCC provided him had really
prepared him well for the technical aspects of his new job. His exposure to the different units at
the head office will also be useful in some ways to the administrative aspects of his position.
However, his trainings and experiences have not provided him with the expertise to recruit
qualified persons to occupy the various positions that will be created. To begin with, he does not
even have information on the number and nature of the positions to be created.

As he was expecting the building in Antipolo where he will hold office, Engineer de
Guzman wondered if he could convince top management to transfer some of his acquaintances in
the head office to his new assignment.
Engineer de Guzman knows his next promotion will depend much I the success of the
new facility under his direction. He thought that if he could only get the right persons, his job
would not be too difficult. With this in mind, he pondered on what his first move must be.

I. Statement of the problem

Engineer de Guzman do not have expertise to recruit qualified person to occupy the
varuois position that will be created for newly built telecommunication facility in Antipolo,
Rizal.So, he don’t know what his first move must be.

II. Alternative Courses of Action


1. Do the Staffing Procedure
2. Convince the top manager to transfer somr of his acquaintances
3. Refuse to take the job from the VP for Operation to make then solve the problem
4. Find referrals from his friends in the company
5. Search Human Resource Manager to hel for Staffing
6. Take training and experience for recruitment
7. Consult and take qualified person from Reciutment Firms

III. Solution and Recommendation

The alternative courses of action in number $ may be the solutions. The finding referrals
from his friends from company migth useful to find qualified person but those person might
not be available. Also Engineer de Guzman don’t have expertise for the recruitment of these
person if they qualified.

The alternative course of action in number 5 is the one of the good solutions. Searching
Human Resources Manager to help for Staff is helful to find qualified empoyees. Human
Resources Manger has expertise dfor recruitment which the employees will come to their
new facility. But Human Resources Manager have a high salary to may, so KCC may have a
risk if they hire Human Resource Manager in the new facility.

The other alternative course of action is the number 6. Taking trainings and experience
for recruitment will be helpful to find qualified employes for new facilty. It can reduce cost
for finding Human Resource Manager. The risk is the time for facility operations. Engineer
de Guzman has limited months to finished his job so he cannot take the training and some
experience. He might not accomplish his job in time.

The last alternative course of action is the number 7. Consult and take qualified person
from Recruitment Firms is better than hiring human Resources Manager because if he hired
the Human Resources Manager, it will add to the cost for salaries for employees, which the
cost is bigger.

I can say that best alternative course of action is the number 7, Consult and take qua;lifed
person from Recruitment Firms.It Reduce cost but have effective and qualified personels.
