Q4 Mathematics 4 Week4

This document provides a lesson plan for a 4th grade mathematics class on collecting and presenting data involving two variables. The lesson involves students conducting surveys to collect data on classmates' favorite fruits and vegetables harvested by farmers. Students will organize the data into tables and construct horizontal and vertical bar graphs to present the data. On the last day, students will assess their understanding by constructing bar graphs from given data sets and answering questions about the graphs.

Learning Area MATHEMATICS Grade Level FOUR

W4 Quarter FOURTH Date

I. LESSON TITLE Data Involving Two Variables
II. MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING • Collects data on two variables using any source. M4SP-IVg-1.4
COMPETENCIES (MELCs) • Organizes data in tabular form and presents them in a
single/double horizontal or vertical bar graph. M4SP-IVg-2.4
III. CONTENT/CORE CONTENT Collecting and organizing data on two variables using any source.
IV. LEARNING PHASES/LEARNING ACTIVITIES
I. Introduction (Time Frame: Day 1)
The activities contained in this LeaP will help you master the following learning competencies at the end of
the lesson:
- collect, organize and present data on two variables in a single/double horizontal or vertical bar graph.
To start, study the following example and analyze how the given data are collected, organized and
presented.
Example: Aivan loves to help picking pineapples from their family’s farm. Every day he picks pineapples.
Let us help him count how many pineapples he gathers for one week.

Sunday

Let us tally the number of pineapples gathered using this template.

Using the table above we can easily answer the following questions below.
1. What is the data all about?
2. On what day is the least number of pineapples gathered?
3. What is the greatest number of pineapples gathered?
4. How many more pineapples gathered on Monday than on Tuesday?
5. What is the difference between the number of pineapples collected on Thursday and Friday?

The data above can also be presented in a horizontal or vertical bar graph. How can it be done?

We can construct a horizontal or vertical bar graph by following the steps below:
Step 1: Draw the vertical and horizontal axis.
Step 2: Label the horizontal and vertical axis.
Step 3: Find the highest number in the data.
Step 4: Make a scale from 0 to the highest number in the table.
Step 5: Draw horizontal/vertical bars to represent the number of pineapples gathered each day.
Step 6: Write the title of the bar graph.
A graph tells a story about the data or
information given.

A bar graph is one way of presenting set of

data which can either be vertical or horizontal
in form. It can be used to show and compare
information.

Double bar graphs help us to compare or

present more than one kind of information
instead of just one by using bars. Double bar
graphs can be vertical or horizontal.

D. Development (Time Frame: Day 2)
Learning Task 1: Conduct a survey of the favorite fruit of your classmates and/or friends 10 boys and 10 girls by
sending them messages on messenger or SMS. Use the table to record the data.
Favorite Fruit of My Classmate and Friends
Tally
Fruits
Boys Girls
1. pineapples
2. ripe mangoes
3. rambutan
4. lansones
5. buko
Answer the following questions:
1. What is the set of data all about?
2. Which fruit is the favorite among the girls? Boys?
3. What is the least favorite fruit among the girls? Boys?
4. What is the top choice fruit of both girls and boys?
5. What is the least favorite fruit of both boys and girls?
E. Engagement (Time Frame: Day 3)
Learning Task 2: Ramil and Maria harvested vegetables in their farm. Data is shown in the table below.
Vegetables Harvested by Ramil and Maria
Vegetables Ramil harvested in kilograms Maria harvested in kilograms Total
Okra 30 30
Eggplant 20 20
Squash 15 10
Petchay 5 15
Ampalaya 25 20

Answer the following questions.

1. What is the set of data all about?
2. What vegetable has the highest weight harvested by Ramil and Maria?
3. What vegetable harvested by Ramil was the least in weight?
4. What vegetable harvested by Maria has the highest weight?
5. How many kilograms of vegetables has the highest weight harvested by both Ramil and Maria?
Learning Task 3: Analyze the double bar graph below by answering the questions that follow.
1. What is the title of the double horizontal bar
graph?
2. What information is placed along the
horizontal axis? Along the vertical axis?
3. What different groups of data are being
compared?
4. What book is the most favorite of the
students?
5. How many students like Math books?
A. Assimilation (Time Frame: Day 4)
You can organize data in a tabular form and present it in a single/double vertical or horizontal bar graph.
Here is the sample table on your friend’s favorite vegetables. How can this be presented in a graph?

V. ASSESSMENT (Time Frame: Day 5)

(Learning Activity Sheets for Enrichment, Remediation, or Assessment to be given on Weeks 3 and 6)
Learning Task 4: Construct a horizontal bar graph with the given data in the table below then answer the
following questions. Do this in your notebook.
TEST SCORES IN MATHEMATICS 4
Name of Pupils Scores
Rowena 90
Arman 85
Maria 80
Kemp 100
Marites 95
1. Who got the highest score?
2. Who got the least score?
3. What is the difference of the score of Maria and Marites?
4. What is the total scores of Rowena and Arman?
5. What is the difference between the combined scores of Kemp and Maria to the combined scores of
Marites and Rowena?
Learning Task 5: Construct a vertical bar graph with the given data in the table below. Do this in your notebook.
