System Description
The HVDC system in from Eltek delivers 380VDC from the site room to the RRUs when there are
long distances between the site room and the RRUs.
-48VDC is supplied by the site's rectifiers to the Central office. The central office transforms the -
48VDC to 380VDC. You can reuse existing cables or add new ones. Outside where the RRUs sits you
need to install a Remote Unit (RU) that transforms from 380VDC back to -48VDC. Up to 6 RRUs can
be installed per RU (Max load of RU is 3000W).
The distance between the rectifiers and RRU can be much longer with this system.
There are great advantages in being able to supply power to all radio equipment via a rectifier with a
battery bank and not split this up with several rectifiers and battery banks. This will simplify
calculations and installation of battery capacity on sites that have requirements for 2h and 4h backup
time.
Projects that choose this solution can use Telia's price calculator which compares the standard
solution with the HVDC solution

Central Office (CO) DC -48V/-380V

Central Office is a 19 "power core that is mounted either below -48V power core in rectifier cabinet
or in a standard 19" Rack. If its installed in a rack you need to use a shelf or sliding rails because of
weight.
It is connected to load fuse in -48V rectifiers. This must be secured with a 125A.
In the front there are 2 fuses, as well as 2 pieces SPD (Surge protection device) and here you insert the
modules.

New and existing Remote Units -48VDC output.
* -48VDC cables from RU can be max 22m. 6 pieces of RRUs placed in 2 or 3 sectors can be no more
than 22m from the Remote Unit if it is to be supplied from one remote Unit.
** Each Central Office has two sections for FP2 1350W modules, the top one supply’s output 1. and
the lower 380VDC output 2.
Note! FP2 1350W DCDC 241115.615 modules have a different connection at the rear than FP2 48 /
2000W 241115.105. This will ensure that these cannot be placed wrong. The 48V system and the
380VDC system should not be connected to the CAN-Bus cable. This will short circuit the system and
equipment may be damaged.

Installation of Central Office (CO) DC -48V / -380V

• When mounting the Central Office in Telia Standard 16kW rectifier cabinet, the unit is placed
just below -48VDC powercore. It comes with transition plates from 24 "to 19" which are
mounted from U28 downwards.
• Connect a -48VDC supply cable between the - and + on the back of the unit, to the rectifiers +
rail and -48V load fuse in the distribution. These are connected with cable shoes with 8mm
bolt holes at the Central Office. See the sizing table below. The cables must have sufficient
length to be inserted on the side of the Powercore, and allow the central office unit to be
pulled out while it is connected.
• The Central Office can be placed on a battery shelf or a transition plates that is screwed into
the rack. A battery shelf can be mounted under the central office, so it can be placed on top of
it. If you install 3 pcs of battery string in the cabinet, all shelves must be moved slightly
down, and you need to order a shelf for the central office as well. If there are less than three
battery strings, the last shelf is used for the central office. If a central office no. 2 is to be
mounted, the shelf under the first central office needs to be moved down to make space for
the second one under the first one.
• Central office is pulled forward and the -48VDC (one conductor) cables are inserted on the
side of Powercore with insulated cable ends. These are not connected until all other
connections are made in the Central Office.
• The 380VDC cables, alarm cables and grounding are routed down through the top of rectifiers
and down the side of Powercore.

The twist the screen and use Y/G stocking.
The PE connections on X2.1 and X2.2 must also be connected to the same ground rail.
Make sure that the two 1.5mm2 earth conductors to the right at the rear edge, where the connecting
end is, are pulled out when mounting. Ground rail is connected to system ground, directly from
ground plate or via C-pres from ring ground on cable bridge. 25mm2 G / G ground conductor is used.
All connections must be of sufficient length to allow Central office to be pulled out to make all
connections at the back of the device accessible.
The Central office is pushed in and attached to the transition plate.
-48V DC single conductor cables are then connected with nite at the end in + rail and - in -48VDC
125A load protection
The CO is pushed in and attached to the transition plate.

Installation of Remote Unit (RU) DC -380V / -48V

The Remote unit cabinet has a Unistrut rail which makes the mounting flexible and it can be mounted
on pipes, walls and posts. The Remote unit is mounted as close to the RRU as possible. You can use
several different brackets and clamps.
Ex. Kathrein's pipe mount, Griptel / AgderSveis A3 mount.
Remote Unit must have at least 70 cm from the bottom of the cabinet and down to the floor for
outdoor installation.

This cabinet should have Telia standard 051 key cylinder. Replace the key/sylinder that followes the
cabinet.

Commissioning the system
Check that the system is in accordance with guidance and that all units are mounted securely. Once
you have done a physical review of all connections and mounting, you can start commissioning. The
system's accompanying documentation is used to verify that you have connected correctly.

1. Make sure that all FP2 1350W modules in the Central Office are fitted correctly to
the outputs and shelves used.
2. Ensure that all FPS 750W modules in the Remote unit are properly inserted and
inserted. (Remember to set section switches if there is 1M or 2M in each section)
3. Insert load switch on the -48V system.
4. Insert the fuses in CO on the connected outputs.
5. Do a control measurement of the voltage at Remote Unit.
6. If item 5 is OK then the course fuses for the RRUs can be entered and Kurd F1 for the
cooling fan. Do this one by one while making sure that the correct course is
connected to the correct RRU and that the light turns on in the RRU.
7. Check the voltage on the connection of the RRUs and make sure that the correct LED
lights on the RRU are lit.
8. Check that cylinder in RU is switched to Telia standard 051.
9. If point 5 is OK, then the course fuses for the RRUs can be entered and course F1 for
