Main Task
Activity #2 How to have fun in pandemic time at home!
Objective: Interact with your partner about the hobbies that you practiced during
the pandemic time at home.
Instruction: Read the information about trendy hobbies during the pandemic time at
home. Then work with your partner to share your opinions about which of them you
both prefer and other hobbies you also practiced. Be prepared to report back to the
class the information you find.
Procedure: The teacher talks to the students about how the families have spent
more time at home in the last few years. She/he assings the students to work in
pairs during 10 minutes . They are going to read about trendy new hobbies. They
are going to discuss with their partner about which of those they have practiced or
will like to practice and why;also they will gather information about other hobbies
each of them practiced with their families during this time. The teacher will monitor
the students work offering help if needed. Later, they are going to report back to
the class the information they have gather.
Reading
This is the perfect time to grab a few age-appropriate books to read in our spare
time. Reading is a hobby that can be done basically anywhere, so it's a fun one to
have no matter your age!
Yoga
Not only is it a great practice that encourages mindfulness and meditation, it's good
for the body, too. A great place to start is with Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube or
for older kids, a more grown-up yoga video that will teach them the ins and outs of
the practice.
Writing
There are a million different ways to write, and the best part about writing is you
can't really do it "wrong". Write a story or a letter to a friend, journal about feelings,
or document everything you did during the day. to get them going.
Photography
Taking pictures is so easy, that even if you're not a photographer yourself you can
still facilitate by giving your child ideas of things around the house or backyard to
take photos of to get them started.
Painting or drawing
But with all this free time, painting can be really therapeutic. Set yourself up outside
or on an easily wiped floor with a large piece of paper and some watercolors or
crayons, and begin to explore your artistic side.
Gardening
As long as you have a little backyard space to spare, a garden could be in your
future! Learning how to garden is not only a life skill, but could result in some really
fun family memories and homemade meals.
Rationale: The activity is input based, offering the students information they should
read and discuss to support their answers. The task seeks to encourage the
students to use their own linguistic resources interacting with their partner in a
contextualized frame such as the pandemic isolation time at home.
