Safety Regulations in Materials Science Labs 1. Students should strictly observe safety rules and requirements in the Lab. Safety Rules will be enforced from the first lab. 2. Heavy cotton clothing is preferred to avoid fire hazards. Students should wear pants, shirts and proper shoes during the Lab sessions. Loose clothing, loose wrist watches, ties, slipper or loose shoes are not allowed in the lab. 3. Wear safety glasses in the lab at all time. 4. Use safety hand gloves when handling sharp tools, hot or liquid metal, or corrosive chemicals. 5. Keep fingers away from machines, furnaces and other equipment while they are working. 6. Do not leave the machine unattended when it is running land stop it before making any adjustment or cleaning. 7. Do not hammer or use excessive force on any part of the machine. 8. Report any cut, scratch, injury or any other accident to laboratory instructor, or technician for the first-aid or phone emergency (3333) or “0” operator from the nearest available telephone. 9. After finishing the experiment, tools must be put in their proper places.

11. Wear eye protection (i.e. goggle) at all the times and shoes must completely cover the foot. No sandals are allowed.
12. Do not use any equipment unless you are trained and approved as a user by your instructor or staff. Ask questions if you are unsure of how to operate something

14. Do not touch any equipment, supplies, or other materials in lab
without permission from the teacher.
15. If any laboratory equipment is malfunctioning, making strange
noises, sparking, smoking, or Smelling, inform your instructor or staff immediately. 16. What to do in case of an Emergency? a. In case of emergency, call 999 from campus phone or 03- 860-9999 from mobile phone. Clearly state the nature of emergency and exact location of your lab. b. You should be familiar with all the emergency exits in your building and locations of fire alarm systems in the building. c. If there is a fire drill during your lab period, turn off all gas valves and electrical equipment before leaving. d. You should know the location and use of all the safety and emergency equipment (i.e., safety shower, eyewash, first- aid kit, fire blanket and fire extinguishers etc. e. Report any safety issues, safety violations or any incident that you are aware of as soon as possible to your instructor/teacher immediately.
