IV. Reading Intervention Programs of the school

a. A minute A Day - One minute reading per student facilitated by a family member or nearby
community volunteer. This program conducted every 3:20 to 4:20 pm as indicated in WHLP,
using reading selections from Testing Reading Power I.
b. Online Kamustahan – After a day of answering modules, the reading teachers know the reading
status of their students through video call or chat.
c. HEART (Home Encouragement And Real Talk) – The teachers print and deliver through home
visitations intervention sheets for some students that cannot be reached online. This is also the
time to visit and know the real situation of the students following health and safety protocols.

V. Problems and Challenges Encountered

The problems and challenges that we encountered include poor Internet connectivity and students
having difficulty understanding the instructions on the modules. These problems were resolved
through the creativity and resourcefulness of CANHS faculty and with the support of the parents.

VI. Feedback and Reflection

Below are screen shots of the feedbacks and reflections of the students via FB Messenger.

VII. Realization of the teachers

As we went digital or modular, we realized that it was impossible for students to receive enough
knowledge through SLM and pdf lessons or google classroom. It’s hard having students so far away
from school, not knowing how to get the right activities or interventions for them. We all know that
we want our students to develop as readers, and this distance learning feels like a major disruption to
that process. Finding some options that will work for our students is our goal throughout our
preparation of our reading intervention. This way our implementation really work for our students, a
way to promote reading throughout the year.
