Ocean Trash Collector

This document describes the development of an ocean trash collector made from recycled materials to address the growing problem of plastic pollution in oceans. The trash collector system uses a floating barrier with a net to gather trash in coastal areas. Trash collected is then recycled to build more trash collectors, helping to clean oceans with less manual labor. Future recommendations include educating communities on waste management and collaborating with organizations that reuse collected waste.

The Philippines is the third largest contributor, with an estimated 0.75

million metric tons of unmanaged plastic entering the ocean each year. Materials:
Most people are aware of the atrocious truth about our oceans:
hundreds and tons of plastic debris in the form of bottles, fishing nets,
Styrofoam, rubber, bags and a overabundance of other containers are
constantly abandoned into the sea. Our goal is to develop a long-term
solution to the growing problem of waste materials on the ocean. We
use discarded plastic that are collected in the ocean as a source to
create a new eco- friendly innovation.
Net Rope Drum
The ocean is one of the main sources of life in the Philippines; many
citizens have created permanent shelters by the coast or by the Finish Product:
shallows of the ocean itself. Because of this, waste and garbage buildup
occurs by the areas surrounding human civilization, which then creates
an unsanitary environment and endangers the lives of the species living
in the ocean. According to an article written by Bea Fernandez from
Modern Spatial Divisions: “…improperly disposed waste carries a risk to
spread diseases, some waste has been identified as having a higher risk HOW IT WORKS:
of spreading disease than others.” (B. Fernandez, 2019) and many of Both ends of the equipment is

Recommendation for future researchers:
Firstly, ensure the education on proper waste management of all the
LGU's. Less waste means easier waste management. Knowledge or idea
with regards to the said product must also be desiminated to the
citizens living in coastal areas so that the researchers will be satisfied
that they will have the cooperation and support of the LGU and the
project will be a success.
The materials that we had used (ex- researchers of this product) are
much simpler and is easy to get, it being found just around the
surroundings and in disposed materials. If preferred, innovate on other
materials that will be much stronger and much more convenient to use
so that it will give less hassle and more secure against strong ocean
currents.
Future researchers may also collaborate with other organizations that
produce products out of disposed materials, so that the collected ocean
waste may be reused.
