Lesson 12.2. The Grading System of The K To 12 Curriculum: Opening Question

This document provides an overview of the grading system used in the K to 12 Curriculum in the Philippines. It outlines the steps teachers take to compute students' final grades from grades 1 to 12. The grades are calculated based on scores from three components: written work, performance tasks, and quarterly assessments. Scores from each component are converted to percentages and weighted according to their assigned importance. The weighted scores are then used to determine students' initial grades, which are further adjusted using a transmutation table. Finally, students' quarterly grades are recorded on their report cards. The document aims to familiarize readers with the grading procedures so they can accurately assess learner progress in the K to 12 system.

Lesson 12.2.

The Grading System of the K to 12 Curriculum

Introduction
We are almost done this course. I hope you have still energy to finish two more
lessons. By the way, this lesson is second to the last.
As I mentioned in previous lessons, there is no such gradation standard. However,
the Department of Education has adopted the following grading system stipulated in one
of its orders, DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015. The said order describes the comprehensive
information how the department implements the systems. Since we are having meagre
time to cover this course topic, this lesson is designed simple yet provides you a
comprehensive information and helps you develop the basic skills of computing learner’s
progress in the K to 12 Curriculum. Have fun learning!

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
 Describe the grading system of the K to 12 Curriculum.
 Compute students’ learning progress and grades in the K to 12
Curriculum.

Let’s get started.

Opening question:
How is the learner’s progress is computed and recorded?
This time, I’d like you to follow and study the following steps in computing the
final grades of students in basic education applicable to Grades 1- 12 only.

Step 1: Grades from all student work are added up, resulting
to a total score for each component: Written Work, Performance
Tasks, and Quarterly Assessment. Raw score from each
component have to be converted to a percentage (%) Score.

Step 2: The sum for each component is converted to percentage score.

% Score (PS) = Learner’s Total Raw Score X 100%
Highest Possible Score
Step 3: % Scores are converted to Weighted Scores
Weighted Score (WS) = % Score X Weight of the Component
Step 4: The sum of the weighted scores in each component is the Initial Grade,
This will be transmuted using the given transmutation table (Appendix B)

Step 5: The Quarterly Grade for each learning area is written in the Report Card of
the student.
How is the learner’s progress reported?

Alright. Thank you very much for taking a time of studying the steps of calculating
the final grades of students in K to 12 Curriculum.

Let’s think about it.

1. How grading system of kindergarten differs from Grades 1-
12?

Let’s explore
This lesson offers you with brief overview about grading system in basic education.
Additionally, you are exposed to steps in learners’ progress and grade computation. To
reinforce you learning, please follow the video of your professor.

Let’s do it.
You are now required to complete the following class record to come
up with final grades of Students A, B, C. Please follow the steps in
the “Let’s get started” of this lesson and watch the video of your
professor for easy completion of this task. Enjoy computing.
Closure:
Well done! How did you find the DepEd Grading System? It has
been hoped that this lesson allows you to envision yourself in the
future computing the learning progress of your future students. By
the way, we are about to finish the course; One more lesson to
explore before we finally finish the course. God bless you.
