How to be a good friend

worried, important, helpful, calls, Hugging, listen
Having good friends who love and support you for who you are is really important to
your happiness. Figure out how you can be there for your friends when they need you
most.
Listen to them
Try to understand a situation from your friend’s point of view. Ask questions to get a
sense of the problem or issue, but the main thing is to   to them. You don’t have
to have all the answers, and don’t assume that your friend wants advice – they might
just want to talk so that they can work it out for themselves.
Ask them what they need
If you’re worried about someone and you want to be there for them, ask them what they
need. You’ll then know what they find   during tough times, and you can offer
them support in a way that’s genuinely helpful.
Get physical
your friends is a great way to show you care for them. Physical contact can be
really comforting, especially when someone feels alone.
Keep in touch
Even if you don’t live nearby, show your friends you’re there for them by making an
effort to keep in regular touch through social media, emails, texts and  .

Tell them how you feel

You don’t have to make a big deal about it all the time, but you can make a real
difference to how someone is feeling just by letting them know how   they are
to you. So, go for it!
Be willing to make a tough call
If you think your friend’s safety is at risk, you might need to act without their consent
and get help. It can be a tough call, particularly when you’re  how they’ll react,
but remember that good friends care enough to step up, and that you’re doing it to
protect them from harm.
Research has shown that the better the quality of your relationships is, the more likely
you
are to be happy. So, being a great friend to someone and having friends support your
back is good for your wellbeing.

Let’s imagine
Imagine that you’re a famous novel writer giving an
interview
A: So, where did the idea of your last novel come from?

B: It came from my childhood. You know, for some reason, I clearly remember the

magic I had in my head when I was a kid.

A: And how did you decide that you should transform your childhood experience into a

novel?

B: It happened when I sold the house of my parents. I was looking through some old

stuff in the attic when suddenly all details of the plot clicked into the right place.

A: I see. And what is your greatest source of inspiration?

B: Let me think...

• The idea of the novel came from ...

• It happened ...

• Let me think ...

• I was approximately ...

• Maybe the main character was ...

Gulliver in Lilliput by Jonathan Swift

Part 1

It is 4th May, 1699. The 'Antelope' goes to the Far East. My name’s Lemuel Gulliver. I’m

a ship’s doctor. I like traveling. I’m going to the East Indies. One night the sea is rough.

'What’s wrong?'

'Help!'

'It’s a storm!'

There are a lot of waves. The ship and the other men disappear under the water.

Gulliver swims and swims. Finally, Gulliver arrives at a beach. He sees no houses.

He is very tired and he goes to sleep.

'Where am I? What’s wrong? I can’t move my arms! I can’t move my legs! I can’t move

my head!'

There is something on Gulliver’s hand. It moves up his arm.

'What’s that?!'
Gulliver opens his eyes. He sees a very little man. The man is about 15 centimetres tall.

He  looks at Gulliver. Gulliver is very surprised. Gulliver says ‘Hello’ to the little man.

The little man runs away!

There are hundreds of little men. They have got bows and arrows. They speak a

strange language.

'What do they say? I don’t understand.'

Gulliver is very hungry. He is very thirsty too. I’m hungry and I’m thirsty! But the little

men do not understand Gulliver. He moves his hand up and down. Finally, his hand is

free. He points to his mouth. I’m hungry and I’m thirsty!

Now the little men understand. They give Gulliver meat, bread, fruit and milk. Gulliver is

happy. Gulliver goes to sleep again.

The little men take him to the city. They need more than 1000 horses! Gulliver wakes

up. He is next to big temple. He cannot escape. Gulliver stands up. He sees a city, trees

and mountains. Everything is very small.
