Occupational Health and Safety Procedures


Occupational Health and Safety refers to the legislation, policies, procedures and activities that aim
to protect the health, safety and welfare of all people at the workplace.
The first thing that every computer technician should keep in mind is SAFETY. You must think that
electrocution and nasty cuts are the most common injuries a computer technician might have and we need
to avoid it by following simple safety procedures.
Occupational Health and Safety Policy
Occupational health and safety is a cross-disciplinary area concerned with protecting the safety,
health and welfare of people engaged in work. The goal of all occupational health and safety programs is to
foster a safe work environment.
Safety practices should be learned early and always adhered to when working with any electrical
device, including personal computers and peripherals. This is for the protection of not only the people
working with them, but also for the devices themselves. The basis for this process begins with your
Occupational Health and Safety Policies.
Personal Safety While Working Along With PC’s

1. Do not work alone so that there's someone who can take care of you in case of emergency.
2. Clean the area before and after using it to maintain sanitation and prevent accidents.
3. Always power off the computer and unplug the computer before working on it.
4. Take away any liquid near your working area to avoid getting electrocuted or accidentally damaging
computer parts.
5. Be careful with tools that may cause short circuit.
6. Always ground or discharge yourself before touching any part of the computer.
7. Do not use excessive force if things don't quite slip into place.
8. Always wear personal protective equipment's (PPE) in accordance with the organization's OHS
procedures and practices.
9. Hold the components on the edges and do not touch the Integrated Circuit (IC) parts.
10. Make sure that the pins are properly aligned when connecting a cable connector.
11. Use brush, compressed air or blower in cleaning the computer system.
12. Contingency measures during workplace accidents, fire and other emergencies are
recognized.
