1. What do you understand by the term IT and ITeS?

Information Technology (IT) means creating, managing, storing and exchanging information. IT
includes all types of technology used to deal with information, such as computer hardware and
software technology used for creating, storing, and transferring information.

Information Technology that enables the business by improving the quality of service is
Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS). ITeS is also called web-enabled services or
remote services that cover the entire operations which exploit Information Technology for
improving the efficiency of an organisation.

2. What are the pros and cons of using ICT?

Pros:
- Reach most friends, family and business contacts in seconds.
- Develop a business line without needing a real office.
- Fast development and less time to market.
- Lower prices on communications to consumers.
- Real-time interaction with other information systems.
- Home and daily tasks automation.
- Asking questions with a million people willing to help out.

Cons:
- No reliable trusted sources. Information might not be accurate.
- Communicating over a distance might degrade the human approach to relations
- The mind has become lazy, not reading the entire page but going straight to the interesting
part.
- Reduced privacy
- A faster world based on technology reduces the amount of time to be with ourselves.

3. What precautions are required to ensure that ICT use is safe?

Follow these tips to keep your computer's security tight. If this is your first visit, use these tips as
a security checklist.

A. Install protective software.


B. Choose strong passwords.
C. Back up on a regular basis.
D. Control access to your machine.
E. Use email and the internet safely.
F. Use secure connections.
G. Protect sensitive data.
H. Use desktop firewalls.

4. What are the four main sub-sectors in the IT-BPM industry?

There are four sub-sectors within the IT-BPM Industry-

IT Services (ITS) sub-sector involves a range of engagement types that include consulting,
systems integration, IT outsourcing/managed services/hosting services, training and
support/maintenance.

Business Process Management (BPM) sub-sector deals with the management of one or more
business processes by an external organisation that, in turn, owns and manages the selected
processes based on defined and measurable performance metrics.

Software Products The IT Industry segment providing services in the area of software products
– through all or any of the product lifecycles – is referred to as the Software Products (SPD)
sub-sector.

Engineering Research and Development (ERD) services are those that augment or manage
processes that are associated with the creation of a product or service, as well as those associated
with maximising the life span and optimising the yield associated with a product or asset.

5. Give examples of use of IT in everyday life.

There are many ways in which the ICT is used for education in the classroom, such as

ii. smart-board presentations;
iii. videos on experiments;
iv. creation of images and video;
v. desktop publishing of magazines, letters and documents;
vi. educational games;
vii. learning using the CD-ROM media; and
viii. gathering educational information on the Internet.

The student can be benefited by using LMS, as it can be used to

8. Which software are used in digital communication?

Ans: Communication software is an application or program designed to pass information from


one system to another.The best defined examples of communication software are file transfer
protocol (FTP), messaging software and email. Some popularly used software are Dropbox,
Google Drive, Skype , Sharepoint ,YouTube, Whatsapp etc

9. For what purpose is IT used in business?

Ans: Technology Is Necessary in Business -


a) Because of technology, many traditional business models and concepts were
revolutionized.
b) Technology also gave us greater efficiency for conducting business.
c) Technology also makes it easy to store more information while maintaining the integrity
of that information
d) With technology, it has been possible to globalize business operations
e) Cloud computing has made it possible for businesses to outsource many of their functions
to third parties using the internet.

10. Which are the prominent areas where IT is used in science and engineering?

Ans: a) Scientists and engineers use computers for performing complex scientific calculations,
Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) applications are used
for drawing, designing and for simulating and testing the designs.

b) Computers are used for storing large amount of data, performing complex calculations and for
visualizing 3-dimensional objects.

11. List the various uses of IT in a banking system.

Ans: Computer is an essential part of the modern banking system. Every activity of a bank is
now online.

a) The customer’s data and transactions are recorded by computers.


b) Recurring deposits (e-RD), Fixed deposits (e-FD), money transfer from one account to
another (NEFT, RTGS), online transactions are done using Internet.
c) Capital market transactions, financial analysis and related services are available in online
platforms.
d) Bank customers use Automated Teller Machines (ATM) for cash deposits and
withdrawal, or to view current balance.

12. Which are the different areas of healthcare where IT is used? And how?

a) Hospital Management System is used to maintain and manage patients’ records as well as
various activities pertaining to hospital administration.

b) The computerised machines are used for ECG, EEG, Ultrasound and CT Scan.

c) The variety of measuring instruments and surgical equipment are used to monitor patients’
conditions during complex surgery.
d) Computers are an integral part of laboratories and dispensaries. They are used in scanning and
diagnosing different diseases.

e) Health IT tools support in specific areas and promote better, more efficient healthcare through
the use of today's technologies. Some of these machines are: CAT, MRI, ECG Machine,
Cardiac Screening Machine, EEG (Electro - encephalography) Machine, Blood Sugar Testing
Machine, Blood Pressure Measuring Machine etc.
