1. Expression of Asking for and Giving Opinion

Asking and giving opinion is an expression used to ask, answer or respond to an opinion. Asking and Giving Opinion is expressions
that is used for talking about argument or opinion of two or more people when discussing about something.

Dialog 1

Jane : Hi, Rara. What do you think is the best action to reduce global warming?

Rara : Hello, Jane. I think everyone should start changing their way of life.

Jane : What do you mean?

Rara : Well, we have to start to do what we can to help reduce global warming.

Jane : Do you have any idea about what should we do?

Rara : Well, there are lots of things that we can do, Jane. I suppose that we should start saving electricity, using public transport,

buying and consuming as much as we need.

Jane : WOW! You know a lot of things about reducing global warming. How about if you write it in our school magazine next
month?

Rara : That’s a great idea. I’ll do that.

Jane : OK. I have to go now.

Rara : OK. Bye!

Emily : Hi Tom! What are you doing?


Tommy : I’m reading a newspaper.

2. Asking Opinion

Asking Opinion is a sentence which asking about asking some about opinion or argument to other people satisfaction.

3. Giving Opinion

Giving Opinion is a sentence that gives a reason or thought to someone or other people.

Dialogue 1

Zoey : Yeah, some. I like Andrea Hirata’s novels.

Shane : How do you feel about Andrea Hirata’s novel?

Zoey : What I have in my mind is I feel they are great novels.

Shane : Yes, you are right. I feel the same. By the way, I think that there are so many teenagers like Andrea Hirata’s novels.

Zoey : I don’t think so. There are many ages who read Andrea Hirata’s novels, not only teenagers who like to read the novels.

Alfi : Good afternoon, Mrs. Gathry. What are you doing?

Mrs. Gathry : Good afternoon, Alfa. I just read a newspaper today about smoking issues.

Expression of Asking for and Giving Opinion (Formal & Informal) and Respond

Formal Expressions
Formal Expressions are used in a situation where you are talking in a formal situation, such as in your home talking with your parents
or your grandparents, in the office or school between you and your teacher, or when you are talking with the people that older than you.

Informal Expressions
Informal Expressions are used in a situation where you are talking between friends or close friends. These expressions usually respond
to something that you discuss in an informal situation (sometimes not talking about serious things).

Responding to an Opinion
Agreeing an Opinion:

Island.
Moderator : Today’s topic on “Parents Speak Out” is the education system in Fantasia Island. Why don’t we just go around first and get
your opinion. Anggia, could we begin with you? What do you think of the education system in Fantasia Island?
Anggia : Well, if you ask me, I think it’s terrible. The education system doesn’t make the students improve their knowledge.

Rian : Maybe, but the teachers in Fantasia Island put the British education system into practice with the wrong teaching method.
