IP
SECONDARY OIL PRESSURE NOT BUILDING UP IN GOV. RACK 210 MW KWU
1. PROBLEM DETAILS:
It
was reported by customer that in Hydraulic mode both the HP & IP secondary
oil pressures are building up
as required. In electro hydraulic (EHC) mode the
HP secondary oil pressure was building up properly but the
IP secondary oil
pressure was not building up at all.
2. OBSERVATION:
2.1
While changing over from EHC mode to hydraulic mode it was observed that
IP secondary oil
pressure was not building up in Hydraulic mode also. When the
starting device position was slowly
brought down by 5% from its maximum
position, the IP secondary oil pressure increased to full value.
2.2
It was further observed that the max. Aux. Secondary oil pressure was
building up to 5.0 kg/cm.
(Customer reported that it was done to avoid
unloading of the set at higher frequencies).
3. ANALYSIS:
3.1
The above observations clearly indicated that due to higher aux.
Secondary oil pressure, the follow
up piston of IP secondary oil pressure was
malfunctioning.
3.2
Normal secondary oil pressure is maintained due to controlled draining of
oil through sleeve (3). The
controlling action is performed due to equilibrium
in tension spring force and the secondary oil
pressure itself.
3.3
Due to higher aux. Secondary oil pressure, the pilot valve (7) and follow
up piston (2) (fig.
Enclosed) were pushed to their extreme positions. This
resulted in loss of equilibrium in tension spring
force & secondary oil
pressure, which led to excessive draining of oil through sleeve (3) resulting in
loss of IP secondary oil pressure.
4. ACTION TAKEN:
4.1
The aux. Secondary oil pressure was adjusted to a value of 4.4 kg/cm.
There after the IP
secondary oil pressure started building up in EHC mode also.
The governing system characteristics
were taken in both hydraulic and EHC mode
and adjusted as required.
5. REMARKS:
M/c
was rolled and synchronized without any problem. 7% speed regulation with
speeder gear was also
checked / readjusted.
