Pineda, Maricar R. CBET-01-601E: Frying Pan (x1) Casserole (x2) Total

The Metal Company produces aluminum frying pans and casserole dishes using a daily supply of 140oz of aluminum. Each product requires time on the casting machine and other components in limited quantities. The objective is to maximize profit by determining the optimal combination of pans and dishes to produce. The optimal solution is to produce 8 pans for P1,200 profit and 6 dishes for P1,200 profit, for a total profit of P2,400.

ACTIVITY 3C (Maximization of Profit)

The Metal Company produces aluminum frying pans and aluminum casserole
dishes. Each frying pan and each casserole dish requires 10 oz. aluminum. The
company’s daily aluminum supply is limited to 140 oz. Each frying pan and each
casserole dish requires 20 minutes and 40 minutes respectively on the casting machine
which is available for 400 minutes a day. Each frying pan requires an insulated handle
and only 12 of this are available each day. Each casserole dish requires 2 special pick-
up handles and only 16 of this are available daily. Each frying pan contributes P150 to
profit and each casserole dish contributes P200 to profit. The man is good and the
company can sell all it can produce. Determine the best combination of frying pans and
casserole dishes which the company must produce and sell to maximize profit. What is
this profit?X

Objective Function:

Maximize: P = P150x1 + P200x2

Subject to:

Explicit Constraints Implicit Constraint

10x1 + 10x2 ≤ 140 x1 ≥ 0 ; x2 ≥ 0

20x1 + 40x2 ≤ 400

x1 ≤ 12

2x2 ≤ 16
Constraints in equality form with slack variables:

P = P150x1 + P200x2 + S1 + S2 + S3 + S4
140 = 10x1 + 10x2 + S1 + 0S2 + 0S3 + 0S4
400 = 20X1 + 40X2 + 0S1 + S2 + 0S3 + 0S4
12 = X1 + 0S1 + 0S2 + S3 + 0S4
16 = 2X2 + 0S1 + 0S2 + 0S3 + S4
