Outlook English (weekly) which is the flagship magazine of Outlook Group secured 7th most
read English magazine in India (Indian Readership Survey 2017).
Like its other peers, the company is also a victim of sudden trend change in the world. The
company is struggling to compete with its substitutes like TV, internet and newspaper. The
company incurred a huge loss of Rs 7.8 crore in FY2017. The company have taken some actions
like introducing digital magazine and increasing social media presence. The company is going
through some major flaws in its subscription department. The problems like late delivery,
repetitive calls and miss-commitment are degrading the company’s goodwill in the market.
Internship is very essential for every MBA student as it gives a glimpse of corporate culture to a
student. In this internship at Outlook Publishing (India) Pvt. Ltd. we learnt the practical
application of the marketing approaches. The title of this internship was “TELEMARKETING
AND PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES OF OUTLOOK.
The interns were responsible for bringing business for the company in the form of subscription
sales. The company has provided all the basic digital infrastructure to its intern so that they could
work on that. Interns generate sales for the company through cold calling, field visits and email

marketing. The only thing which makes this internship unique from others is its internship
structure which allows an intern to think and execute the task in the way he/she wants.
The interns at Outlook Group feel as they’re the integral part of the organization. The interns are
also rewarded with 10% commission on every sale they convert. Apart from this, interns are
supposed to address the customer’s grievances and resolve them. The interns are exposed not
only to just sales, but also marketing. This internship indeed requires hard work and dedication
as selling a product which isn’t a necessity is difficult.
Most of new target group has not effectively dismissed buying in, however essentially need
serious persuading. Also, membership offers development for openings, yet customer attention to
them seems, by all accounts, to be somewhat low and promotion offering cycle could be made to
be a greater amount of an "occasion" and to give the beneficiary more decision and opportunity
in their little determination. In addition, it was inferred that there are a ton of potential customers
who need slightly additional something to cause them to buy in towards magazine.

associated with the product and prepare domain specific strategies for future tasks. A portal of
the company Knowledge Jockey was provided to us for enabling attractive offers for the
customer which would help us gain customer providing them different offers. To gain confidence
on the product and company different pitched were provided with different aspects according to
the type of magazine we were pitching.
At the start of the task, we generated leads; enlisted 15 prospects for each of the magazine. This
helped having a clear picture of entire leads. As the days passed, we followed the lead and
generated sales.
The Aim of this task was to make ourselves acquainted with the product mix, opportunities and
challenges with the products.

Task 1
Which supply chain function do you think outlook should own and which it should
outsource? What are the reasons behind your choice?
Figure 3
7|Page
According to me I would suggest that Outlook should outsource all the production and printing
duties.
This is suggested because if there are very few customers in any locality and if it is far then
outlook will have to print and spend a lot on transportation of that magazine to that location. But
instead of this they can outsource their printing to the local newspaper printing station and
provide them with the details of the print page quality as needed by the company for uniformity
in the product.
Paper and pulp production can be made local with the local raw materials available for reducing
the cost of transportation. But if the quality of print pages is very essential then Outlook can have
a uniform material handling by proper supply chain of these raw materials. But this can turn out
to be expensive.
Transportation should be outsourced based on the locality as the local people will be more aware
of the area and will have a more efficient delivery process. Outlook can also set up their own
delivery team, but it will be expensive if the demand is low in the locality. In areas of high
demand, they can have their own teams else where they can set up delivery partners.

Paper and pulp Production Depends on demand in the locality

In India, the Print media is more than an incredibly old and settled industry. The print business
includes everyday paper and magazine distributing. Book distributing is more modest yet basic
to the extent pay. Notwithstanding the way that it is a mature industry, new magazines are
persistently dispatched reliably. India has been one of the fastest creating world economies since
the past three years. Strong use and rising pay levels have helped the improvement of print

media. New titles that focus on specialty themes keep on dispatching on the lookout. The
wellsprings of income for a magazine are enrollment, single copy arrangements and business.
The magazine business is encountering a limit stage in India similarly as in various countries.
Day by day papers have added enhancements to their guideline issue and infringed on the
substance got by magazines earlier. Television slots have moreover been dispatched in assorted
characterizations that did not, years back. Besides with the expanded utilization of the Internet in
the country, more people are presently burning-through news and stories on unmistakable
focuses on the web and cellphones. There is yet a premium for top quality print substance and
magazines should pass on that need to keep an essential separation from lose slice of the pie to
various mediums. Additionally, they similarly need to research and circulate their substance on
the web and cellphone ventures to offer choice to their endorsers of burn-through content from
wherever and at whatever point.

Implement the Product Process Matrix and Formulate Sound purchasing and Supply
Strategy
Figure 4
The product process grid blends the product lifecycle, which envelops all viewpoints from
ideation to an product's development or decay—with the process lifecycle, the movement
towards more practical and useful normalized structure. The product interaction network was
created by Robert H. Hayes and Steven C. Wheelwright. You can discover the matrix regarded to
Hayes-Wheelwright Matrix. It furnishes associations with an apparatus to gauge the
advancement of an item and its connected cycles and examine the fit between a picked item
situating and its connected cycles.
There are different benefits and burdens of Product Process Matrix. They Invite more extensive
considering hierarchical ability and upper hand. It empowers more prominent contribution during
arranging, prompting better arrangement among offices and the association. It's anything but a
pathway to more educated expectations and key reactions to industry moves and changes.
Inconveniences Is static with restricted item assortment. The measurements are excessively
straightforward. The Hayes-Wheelwright network is contained four particular stages specifically:
Job Shop, Batch, Assembly Line, Continuous Flow
10 | P a g e
By Implementing Product process matrix, we can develop a sound purchasing and Supply
Strategy. It would mainly comprise of:
Contract Printing: Contract screen printing (or contract printing) is when a print shop
subcontracts printing to another print shop. This means another print shop does the actual
printing. Print shops may subcontract jobs because of the job's size, difficulty, decoration type,
and a variety of other reasons. Contract printing is a great way to leverage another shop's
capacity and specialized skills. This would be of great help when looking at international
printing options and can reduce cost drastically.

Give examples of dyadic and triadic relationship in Outlook’s supply chain?
The relationship between two firms in order to achieve efficiency, flexibility, and competitive
advantage, firms are increasingly developing collaborative relationships with their partners in the
supply chain, this relationship is termed as dyadic relationship and triadic relationship.
Dyadic relationship:
Figure 6
In dyadic relationships only one pair of firms will be involved (e.g., supplier-buyer, supplier-
customer) in outlook publications there can be relations between supplier, manufacturer,
distributor, retailer and customer. There can be a direct relationship between the supplier-
manufacturer, manufacturer-distributor, distributor-customer. With this kind of relationship there
will be direct communication between the concerned departments which will result into carrying
out the process efficiently.
12 | P a g e
Triadic Relationship:
Figure 7
In the downstream inventory network, the outsider is included by reevaluating the capacity of
circulation and co-ordinations is the principal component to build a triadic network.

various levels. The 3P co-ordinations can likewise be rethought with the goal that the
circulation of the magazines is done without any help by the co-ordination’s organization
just, here the exhibition of 3PL could straightforwardly effect on consumer loyalty as
well as different parts of promoting. As on time conveyance of the magazine is vital.

comment on which company has a better LSC strategy.
Figure 10
23 | P a g e
Outlook India is the organization from Raheja bunch we have examined up until now. One of the
fundamental contenders for Outlook India will be India Today magazine.
Outlook was first given in October 1995 with Vinod Mehta as the proofreader in boss. It is
possessed by the Rajan Raheja Group. The distributer is Outlook Publishing (India) Pvt. Ltd. It
highlights substance from governmental issues, sports, film, and accounts of wide interests. By

know about their different processes which can be implemented in the company.
2. Warehousing and logistics services: It is very important to efficiency manage the proper
operational flow from printing to warehousing and from warehousing to the customer.
3. To understand which of the following method is efficient amongst inhouse printing or

4. To reduce the lead time of the product.
3.3 Methodology:
As a part of different tasks, we were asked to find out the values of certain terms like aggregate
planning, 4V analysis, operations strategy matrix, etc., which were the primary research. For
calculations in task 2 and 4, secondary data provided by the company is used.
Conducted a quantitative research, which is a research strategy that focuses on quantifying the
collection and analysis of data. The methods used are secondary research or desk research which
involved using already existing data and primary research. In secondary research, existing data
was summarized and collated to increase the overall effectiveness of research.
Primary research is done for understanding the concepts such as planning, etc. and secondary
research is the numerical values thy have given us.
27 | P a g e
Figure 11
The data was provided by the company in order to help with the real-life problems faced by
them. The data helped in understanding the actual ground reality of the company. The different
problems included problems with the supply chain, the inventory management and the planning
for getaways. All the data used by us was provided to us by the company.
3.6 Sample
The samples given to us were posed as questions to us by the company. Sample that was
provided were as follows:
28 | P a g e
Cost Information
Inventory carrying cost 5 per unit per month
Subcontracting cost per unit 10 per unit
With the given sample question, we were asked to implement aggregate planning using different
strategies. We were also asked to determine which one was statistically better. In the next one we
were given a sample question which was as follows:
Outlook Gateways has a demand of 75 Lakhs per year. Setup cost and holding cost are 29
and 35 per unit. Number of pieces in an order includes 2.3 Lakhs per order. Printing is
done 300 days and 2 days to deliver this magazine.
In this we were asked to find the EOQ, the Setup Cost, the Holding Cost also the Reorder Point.
We were also asked to find the annual demand to production ratio. These are the samples that
were provided to us by the company.
After analyzing the data, it was clear that in Aggregate Planning over the period of
given time applying Mixed strategy with leveling the production rate and chasing the
surplus demand with help of overtime is most cost efficient compared to other options.
In case of Production Planning the data evaluated that consider holding cost per unit
and setup cost per batch Economic Ordering Quantity comes around 1690731 units and
number of times the batch to be produced approximately comes around 4 times. This
29 | P a g e
leads us to a proper inventory with safety stock of 4,60,000 units and maximum capacity
storage to be 21,50,731 units.

5.Conclusion
Outlook India is a nationalized magazine, its reach around the country and in Indian Sub-
