1. Choose one political cartoon in the folder and answer the political cartoon
worksheet.

a. Identify the cartoon caption and or title


The caption of this political cartoon is “ It’s Up to Them”

b. Locate three words or phrases used by the cartoonist to identify people or


objects within the cartoon.
The cartoonist only use symbolism to convey the meaning of the political cartoon.
In addition, the cartoonist also used various actions and dresscode of the people to
identify the 2 culture which is the Filiinos and Americans.

c. Which of the objects on your list are symbols? What do you think each symbol
mean?
- The American dressed man and woman are stangding above the hand of
the american government which symbolize that they are offering their american
culture to the native Filipinos and treating them like they are not civilize like
Americans. In addition, the americans has this intention to change our culture and
apply theirs as the sign of colonialism.

a). Cite the significance of Mc Kinley’s Benevolent Assimilation Proclamation.

- One of the significance events from benevolent Assimilation Proclamation is


that the destruction of the Spanish fleet in the harbor of Manila by the United States naval
squadron commanded by Rear- Admiral Dewey, which this result to major effect to the
Philippines.

- By general Otis, Mc Kinley issued a declaration announcing that Spain had


ceded the Philippine Island to this nation on the 10th of the previous month.

b). Why was General Franklin Bell successful in pacifying the province of Batangas
as compared to General Jake Smith’s pacification of Samar?
The explanation why Gen. Bell is much more idiomatic and even more advantageous to
propitiating the Province of Batangas, compared to Gen. Jake Smith's Pacification of Samar, is
that General Franklin Bell implemented an effective counterinsurgency campaign throughout
Batangas Province
3. What is the implication of the Balangiga massacre to Mc Kinley’s Benevolent
Assimilation Proclamation? Discuss.
In Mc Kinley's Declaration, the purpose of the Balanga Massacre is that white American
people excessively trusted in their inhabitants. According to Mc Kinley's argument, many
supplies and civil rights were given to the people, but the people must fight back against the
American people. Guerrillas also terrorized 48 of the 78 American armed forces. The Democrats
could not predict anything that was going to happen. That is why general Franklin Bell's
Excellent Control of Power and his Governance Movement is instigating.
