18th Panzer Grenadier Regiment: Formed on 6/23/43 from the 18th
Motorized Infantry Division.
In January 1945 the 30th and 51st Regiments formed a 3rd Bn,
and the 3/18th AR were formed. In March 1945 the division was dis-
banded in East Prussia. On 21 March 1945 it was ordered reformed on
the Vistula from the Schlesien and Holstein Panzer Divisions. The
Holstein Panzer Division had been formed on 2/2/45 from the 233rd
Reserve Panzer Division and the Schlesien Panzer Division had been
formed on 2/20/45 in Döbritz. When reformed, the division had:

22nd Volks Grenadier Division: Formed in March 1945 from the 22nd

23rd Infantry Division: On 10/23/42 the division was reformed in
Denmark with those portions not used to form the 26th Panzer Divi-
sion. The division had:
The 292nd Army Flak Battalion was assigned to the division during the
winder of 1942/3.
The division was destroyed with Army Group Middle in July 1944
and its debris was incorporated into the 107th Panzer Brigade. The
division was reformed in October 1944 as a kampfgruppe. It had

10th Panzer Division. The 1/65th AR was attached to the 29th AR as
the 3/29th and the old 3/29th became the 2/29th AR. In the Fall 1940
the 29th Division had:
The division was destroyed in June 1944 while with Army Group Middle
and was disbanded on 18 July 1944.
31st Volks Grenadier Division: formed on 10/9/44 from the 31st Grena-
dier Division. The fusilier and Panzerjäger Battalions were brought
to full strength, the 2/82nd was redesignated the 3(Jäger)/82nd Gre-
nadier Regiment and the 4/31st AR was redesignated as the 1/67th AR.
The division was reformed in Danzig on 17 January 1945 and was taken
into Russian captivity shortly later.

32nd Infantry Division: Mobilized on 8/1/39 with:

Battle March Battalions. The division was captured by the Russians
by Danzig and Hela.
During the summer of 1943 the division became the 36th Panzer
Grenadier Division and the reconnaissance battalion became the 136th
Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. The division was demotorized in
June 1943 and reverted to the 36th ID.
In June the Division was with the Army group Middle and de-
stroyed in the Bobruisk Pocket. On 8/3/44 it was disbanded.

39th Infantry Division: Formed on 7/10/42 as part of the 20th Wave.
It consisted of the:
41st Infantry Division: Formed in January 1945 from the 41st Fortress
Division. It had:

and the 3/362nd AR. The Division then had 9 infantry battalions and
the reconnaissance regiment from 1944 on. On 8/28/44 the 3/131st
became the 44th Mortar Battalion, the 1/132nd and the 3/H.u.D were
disbanded, the 3/131st and 3/132nd were merged into a single battalion,
reducing the division to the strength of 6 battalions. During the
winter 43/44 the Meier Panzer Group (equipped with Tiger Tanks) was
joined to the division. The division was captured near Linz by the
Americans.
In June 1944 the Division was destroyed with Army Group Middle
in the Bobruisk Pocket.
On 9/22/45 the 1132nd Grenadier Brigade was absorbed into the divi-
sion to reform the staff and 1/130th IR.
45th Volks Grenadier division: On 10/21/44 the 45th Grenadier Divi-
sion was redesignated as the 45th Volks Grenadier Division. The
division had:
The 97th IR, 3/114th AR, 76th Reconnaissance Battalion and the
88th Pioneer Battalion were raised upon mobilization of the division.
The Staff/114th AR was not formed. The staff of the 115th AR direct-
ed the three light battalions of the 114th and the heavy battalion of
the 115th AR until it was redesignated as the 114th AR on 2/4/42.
In January 1940 the 46th Feldersatz Battalion became the
1/330th IR (183rd ID - 7th Wave). On 2/1/40 the 2/72nd IR became the
1/520th IR (296th ID, 8th Wave) and was rebuilt. In March 1943 the
division was rebuilt. In October 1943 the division 2/42nd and 1/72nd
were disbanded and replaced by renaming the 3rd Battalions, and the
3/97th was also disbanded without replacement. The regiments were
redesignated as grenadier regiments. The division had:

The division was destroyed in March 1945 and its survivors were
taken prisoner by the Americans. At that time it contained:
49th Infantry Division: Formed on 2/1/44 from the 191st Reserve Divi-
sion and a fixed infantry division. The division had:
The division was heavily damaged in the Mons pocket. The rem-
nants were formed into a kampfgruppe near Aachen. It was reinforced
with the 31st and 57th Fortress Machine Gun Battalions and the 302nd
and 305th Western Army Infantry Battalions, the 1423rd Fortress
Infantry Battalion, the Grenadier Ersatz Battalion and the 78th Re-
placement Battalion, and the I, VI, XI, and XVIII Landwehr Fortress
Battalions. The survivors of this force was later drawn into the
246th ID (1/148th became the 1/689th, 1/149th AR became the 1/246th
AR, and the 49th Fusilier Bn became the 246th Fusilier Bn). The
division staff was reformed as the VII Panzer Corps staff on 12/1/44.

In June 1944 the division was destroyed near Mogihlev and was
formally disbanded on 8/3/44. Its survivors were incorporated into the
2/57th Divisional Group and later on 8/3/44 to Corps Detachment "G".

On 4/1/40 the 160th Motorcycle and 160th Reconnaissance Battal-
ions were merged and the 282nd Army Flak Battalion was joined to the
division as the 4/160th AR. On 6/15/42 the 1/18th Panzer Regiment
(18th Panzer Division) became the 160th Panzer Battalion. The division
was then destroyed at Stalingrad.
The division was rebuilt by the order of 2/17/44 in southern
France using the 271st Grenadier Regiment, 93rd ID. The rest of the
division was organized on 3/15/44. It was retitled the 60th Panzer
Grenadier Division, but the order of 14 June 1944 changed its name to
the Feldherrnhalle Panzer Grenadier Division.
61st Infantry Division: Formed on 8/8/39 as part of the 2nd Wave with:
On 2/4/40 the 2/190th became the 2/526th (298th ID, 8th Wave).
On 10/24/40 one third of the division (Staff/1/190th IR, 1/164th and
1/183rd IR) were detached to form the 323rd ID (13th Wave). Those
units were replaced. In February 1942 the 164th IR was detached to
the 57th ID and the 179th IR was assigned to the Division. Between
3/27 and 7/5/42 the division also had the Kampfgruppe Friedrich (208th
IR, formed of the 2/,3/208th and 1/226th IR) attached to it. The bulk
of the division was destroyed in the Don basin and on 5/4/43 the
183rd and 190th Grenadier Regiments were disbanded. The division was
then assigned the 179th Grenadier Regiment (3 bns) and on 5/4/43 the
354th Grenadier Regiment (286th Security Division, 3rd Wave).
On 11/2/43 the Kampfgruppe of the 38th Division, which consisted
of the Staff/,1/,2/,3/112th Grenadier Division, 2/138th AR, the 138th
Reconnaissance Battalion and the 138th Pioneer Battalion, was trans-
ferred to the 62nd ID to be rebuilt. The 3/179th,3/112th, and 3/354th
IRs were disbanded with the 3/354th becoming the 2/354th. The
2/162nd AR was also disbanded. The 3/162nd Panzerjäger Battalion
became the 471st Panzer Destroyer Battalion and the 4/162nd became a
school battery. The division was reformed with:
On 3/13/44 the Division was merged with the 123d ID to form the
Corps Detachment "F".
The 62nd Division was reformed on 7/20/44 from the Corps De-
tachment "F" and various other detachments. It stood with:

70th Infantry Division: Formed on the Island of Walachern in the
Netherlands on 7/17/44, the division contained:
72nd Infantry Division: Formed on 9/19/39 from the Trier Grenz Divi-
sion. It had:
The 706th AR was renamed the 172nd on 4/2/40. The 72nd Bicycle
Battalion was formed on 5/15/42 from the bicycle squadron. The 3/124
and 2/66th were disbanded in November 1942.

88th Infantry Division: Formed on 12/1/39 as part of the 6th Wave, the
division was equipped with Czech weapons and equipment. The 13th
Company of the infantry Regiments was a heavy mortar company. They
were disbanded on 1/15/41. The division had:
Between August 1940 and February 1941 the division stood down.
On 12/23/41 the division was reformed and each infantry regiment
reformed its 13th Company as an infantry support gun company. The
heavy battalion (4/188th) of the artillery regiment was detached and
sent to the 223rd ID as the 4/239th AR. It was reformed on 6/13/42
from the 1/162nd AR. At the same time the Panzerjäger Battalion was
reinforced by two companies (511th and 257th). During the winter of
1942/43 the bicycle battalion became the 188th Ski Battalion.
On 11/2/43 the 323rd Division Group of the disbanded 323rd ID
(13th Wave) were absorbed into the division and the 3rd battalions of
the infantry regiments and the ski battalion were disbanded as the
division reformed itself into a Type 44 division. The 246th Grenadier
Regiment was disbanded and its 2nd battalion was taken into the 248th
Grenadier Regiment, whose 2nd battalion had become a fusilier battal-
ion. The division now had:

188th Division (Einheiten) Service Units
On 4/1/42 the division was renamed the 90th Light ID and the
155th Schützen Regiment became the 155th Light IR. The detached its
third battalion to form the 200th Light IR in the division. The both
the 361th IR and the 155th became Schützen Regiments. On 7/26/42 the
90th Afrika Division was a full division. The three regiments, howev-
er, became Panzer Grenadier Regiments. The division now had:
90th Panzer Grenadier Division: The reborn 90th Afrika Division was
formed on 7/6/43 from units drawn from Sardinia. It had:

The division, had the 6th Fallschirmjäger Regiment of the 2nd
Fallschirmjäger Division assigned to it, was destroyed at Cherbourg
and on 8/10/44 it was disbanded.
The division was reformed in the Eifel from Castorf (172nd Divi-
sion) Kampfgruppe. On 11/5/44 the division was absorbed into the
344th ID. The infantry was simply transferred, but the 191st Mountain
Artillery Regiment became the 344th Artillery Regiment.
The division was captured in the Alps and passed into American
captivity.
95th Infantry Division: Formed on 9/19/39 as part of the 5th Wave, the division had:
From August 1940 to February 1941 the division stood down. The
2/,3/195th Panzerjäger Battalion were detached and on 7/4/40 they
became the 2/,3/230th Panzerjäger Battalion in the 169th ID. The
3/195th was reformed on 2/27/41. On 4/2/41 the heavy mortar compa-
nies in the regiments were replaced by close support infantry gun
companies taken from the 211th ID.
During the winter of 1943/44 the division was reorganized into
a Type 44 Division. The 1/278th became the 195th Divisional Battalion
and finally the 195th Fusilier Battalion. The 3/279th and 2/280th IR
were disbanded in June 1944. The division had:

On 7/21/44 the division was disbanded and used to build the 95th
Divisional Group with the 278th and 279th Regimental Groups, the 95th
Fusilier Battalion and the 1/,2/195th AR. It was eventually disbanded.
On 9/10/44 the Corps Detachment "H" was redesignated as the
95th Infantry Division. The newly formed division had:
From August 1940 to February 1941 the division stood down. The
2/,3/196th Panzerjäger Battalion were detached on 7/4/40 to form the
2/,3/290th Panzerjäger Battalion, 290th ID and were reformed when the
division stood to arms in February. The 13th Companies (heavy mor-
tars) were replaced on 4/2/41 by close support infantry gun companies
drawn from the 246th ID.
In 1942 the division disbanded the 1/283rd, 1/284th and 3/287th
IR. In June 1944 the division was trapped in the Hube Pocket. It was
reformed and the 3/283rd and 3/284th were redesignated as the 1/283rd and
1/284th IR. The division then had:
97th Jäger Division: Formed on 7/6/42 from the 97th Light ID, the
division had:
98th Infantry Division: Formed on 9/18/39as part of the 5th Wave, the
division had:
Between August 1940 and February 1941 the division stood down.
Upon being recalled, the 13th Companies (heavy mortar companies) were
replaced by close infantry support gun companies drawn from the 215th ID.
In 1942 the 2/282nd, 3/289th and 3/290th IR were disbanded. The
3/282nd became the 2/282nd. The division had only six battalions
through the summer of 1943. On 2/14/43 the 289th Grenadier Regiment
was disbanded and the 98th Divisional Battalion was formed from the
2/289th. The 2/289th became the 3/282nd. On 3/1/44 the division was
reestablished with three grenadier regiments when the 615th Grenadier
Regiment was assigned. In May 1944 the division was destroyed in the
Crimea.
The division was reformed on 6/5/44 in Croatia from the remain-
der of the 98th Division and the staff of the 387th ID. The division
now had:

100th Ersatz Division: Formed on 6/1/40 as part of the 3rd Wave, the

100th Jäger Division: The division was formed on 7/6/42 and had:
On 7/6/42 the division was converted into the 101st Jäger Division.
101st Jäger Division: Formed on 7/6/42 from the 101st Light ID, it had:
At the end of 1944 the 216th Divisional Group was absorbed into
the 216th Grenadier Regiment and the 2/216th AR became the 2/104th
AR. The division was disbanded in East Prussian in April 1945 and the
manpower absorbed into the 28th Jäger Division. They were finally
taken prisoner by the Russians.

113th Infantry Division: Formed on 12/10/40 with one third of 15th and
24th IDs. The division had:
On 1/18/41 the 1/268th and 2/260th were merged. In May 1942 the
3/268th was sent to Africa and on 9/21/42 it became the 3/155th
Schützen Regiment. In 1942 the regiments were strengthened by the
addition of a 9th company and later by a full battalion. The division
was destroyed at Stalingrad.
It was reformed on 3/21/42 in France. It had:
In 1945 the 4/66th AR was formed from the 2/671st. The division
was taken prisoner by the Americans in Brescia, Italy.
In March 1945 the 2/737th was rebuilt from the 1010th Fortress
Battalion and the artillery regimental staff was rebuilt from the
944th Army Coast Defense AR. The division was taken prisoner by the
Americans by Steyr.

On 7/15/42 the 3/405th, 2/407th and 2/408th were disbanded and
each regiment formed a 15th Company. The 121st Reconnaissance and
Panzerjäger Battalions were merged to form the 121st Schnell Batta-
lion. In 1944 the Schnell Battalion became the Division Fusilier Batta-
lion and a Panzerjäger Battalion. On 7/3/44 the 3/407th and 3/408th
were changed to the 2/407th and 2/408th Grenadier Regiments. On
3/17/44 the division was rebuilt from the Mielau Shadow Division. It
was taken prisoner by the Russians in Kurland.
On 5/18/42 the 3/409, 2/410 & 3/411 IR were disbanded and each
regiment formed a 15th (bicycle) Company. The division was captured
by the Russians in Kurland.

Baranowitschi, on 7/22/44, the division was rebuilt as a Type 44
Division. It had

Army.
In 1943 the 3/436th became the Sturm Battalion of the 18th Army.
The 1/437th and 2/438th disbanded and replaced by the 3/437th and
3/438th IR. The division was reorganized into a Type 44 Division and

During 1944 the division remained in Crete with the 832nd and
833rd Security Battalions, the Crete Artillery (coastal) Regiment and

the island and it passed into English captivity after the war.

On 8/3/42 the Karl Division was sent to Auray. On 2/21/43 the

formed form the 2/752nd AR. On 10/26/40 the Staff/351st, 1/330th

On 12/13/40 the 219th AR formed a 4th (heavy) Battalion from the
4/215th AR. On 2/4/42 the 3/330th was disbanded and replaced by the
1/343rd IR, the 2/351st was replaced by the 3/343rd. The 343rd IR
was disbanded on 3/27/43, the second had been disbanded on 10/21/41
in Spass-Kusowy and not reformed. The division stood with two regi-
ments (330th and 351st) and six battalions until 2/15/43 when the
219th Divisional battalion was formed.
On 11/2/43 the division was disbanded and the 183rd Divisional
Group was formed with the 330th and 351st Regimental Groups. The
