In the midst of pandemic, life changes its course and shifted to the new normal.
The question is, despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, can we still achieve
the goals of “National Service Training Program (NSTP)? Can we still carry out the
seven dimensions of NSTP?

Training Service (LTS), still make a way to provide service to other people. License to
Thrive: Your Scientific Movie House is one of the projects being implemented which
aims to offer scientific entertainment through online platforms such as Facebook and
messenger. We can still relate it to one of the dimensions of NSTP which is recreation.
In this time of pandemic wherein we cannot easily leave our house, watching movies
and playing mobile games became our form of recreational activities. We consider
these as passive recreational activities. Hence, it is a pleasure to still serve our fellow
youth with such recreational activity which they will not just be entertained but will also
learn scientific principles. This project will improve student’s interest in science as a
subject through incorporating science fiction movies and interactive online activities.
As an individual
Narratives of my Insights
Preparation:
In the preparation of the umbrella project and sub-projects, these are the things I
realize:
Becoming active during the discussion is hard for us because we did not yet
have that strong and open relationship with each other. However now, I want to tell you
that do be inactive during virtual meetings. I know that everyone is struggling to cope up
in this new mode of learning. Everyone is finding it hard to interact virtually. Hence, as a
pre-service teacher, let us make it as a training ground to enhance our social skills. I
realized that maybe someday, this is how I will interact with my students. It may be hard
for me to be active virtually unlike when having it face-to-face, but I really tried to
surpass my weakness. Now, I can say that I am thankful for this experience.
4. Learn to Volunteer
I hate myself for staying silent in the delegation of tasks or whenever our class
needs help in relation with our home-based immersion. I waited for them to assign me
and mention my name to do this and that. However, it did not happen. In this situation,
wherein we do not yet know each other well, volunteerism is important. No one will
assign you on a certain task since your skills, talents, or strengths are not yet known to
the class. Therefore, I realized that if we think we have the capability to do this, learn to
volunteer. In result, I started to volunteer myself and it was amazing to see that the
other also start to volunteer themselves. I want to say that learning to volunteer is not
something that shows boasting, it is caring.
Implementation:
In the implementation of our group’s project, these are the things I realize and want to
share:
We lack in this thing. We did not meet regularly because of other school works.
In result, we did not have much discussion about the progress of our project. We did not
discuss in our group the things we need to improve and the problems we encountered.
In result, there were times that our project was not any more effective, and we did not
see any progress. Therefore, I realize that in doing home-based immersion, regular
meetings with the group members are essential and necessary to monitor the progress
of the project and for further improvements.
Honestly, we did not have a proper delegation of tasks in our group. In result, the
members have no sense of responsibility and the leader mostly prepare all the
activities. Sometimes because of unexpected circumstances, we could not anymore
follow the tasks assigned to us. What happened in our group was more on volunteerism
or initiatives. Yes, it was good to volunteer but I still suggest having a proper delegation
of tasks. This will challenge the members to do their best in their assigned task. This will
also create a smooth flow of the project.
If we really fail in the preparation, the implementation will also fail. We had a
struggle in implementing our activities because in the first place, we did not have a
proper schedule of activities. What to post in the FB Group, when to post it and so on. It
is also important for the participants to be aware of the different activities and its
schedule in a week. The problem in our group was that we just post the materials and
activities in our preferred time, hence, the participants did not know when to visit the
group. Because of this, the engagement of the participants was not that observable.
5. Be Creative
7. Be Flexible
We don’t know what comes along the way, so becoming flexible is essential.
During the implementation of our project, we can sense that some of our activities are
not effective and we face a lot of problems in terms of the engagement of the
participants. Therefore, we made necessary changes and thought of a remedial action.
For example, we find it hard to have an interactive discussion with the participants via
FB group, hence, we created a group chat via messenger. Then, it was effective. The
participants freely shared their ideas, and we had a wonderful discussion.
Post-Field Immersion Realizations
2. Always find the opportunities in every situation. This pandemic may frustrate me as a
student and steal my excitement to experience the field immersion in LTS, I should still
see the opportunities behind this new home-based immersion. Now, I can say that the
home-based immersion provides unexpected opportunities in me: an opportunity to
enhance my social skills in this kind of platform, to enhance my creativity, and to
challenge my collaboration skills.
3. Be sensitive with the needs of the society. In implementing a project, make sure that
it benefits other people, and it has something to contribute to the society. We discussed
it thoroughly in writing the objectives of the project. It is my realization that home-based
immersion can still make a change to the society.
If I would rate my involvement from the beginning until the end of the home-based
immersion, it would be 92 (50 No Contribution and 100 Maximum Contribution). In the
preparation of the umbrella project and sub-projects, I shared my insights during the
brainstorming.
After we finalized the sub-projects, each group chose the project they want to
implement, and we chose the License To Thrive: Your Scientific Movie House. In the
preparation, I contributed to the brainstorming, finalizing the proposal paper, and finding
possible participants.
