Lesson 1

Here is a 100-word explanation for why sense organs are important: Sense organs are vital parts of the human body that allow us to experience and interact with the world around us. Our eyes allow us to see the beauty in nature as well as avoid dangers. Our ears detect sounds that help with communication. Our nose detects scents to enjoy food and identify hazards. Our tongue allows us to experience different flavors. Our skin gives us a sense of touch so we can feel textures. Without our sense organs, we would not be able to see, hear, smell, taste or feel. They provide us with information that is essential for survival and enjoyment of our surroundings.

Sense Organs

Objectives:
▪Apply the knowledge in using the Curriculum
Guide (CG) in teaching Science (Biology and
Chemistry) in elementary
▪Describe the parts and functions of sense organs of
the human body
▪ Enumerate healthful habits to protect the sense
organs
Curriculum Guide (CG)
▪First tool that a teacher must consider before
planning and designing educational activities and
instructional materials.
▪A teacher must be familiar with the competencies in
this CG before the start of classes.
▪Aside from the CG, DepEd also publishes Teacher’s
Guide (TG) and Learner’s Materials (LM) to make
teaching-learning more effective
Curriculum Guide (CG)
▪Science is taught in elementary in Grades 3, 4, 5
and 6.
▪Kapampangan is used as medium of instruction in
the 3rd grade and English for the rest of the grades.
▪Chemistry which is about matter is discussed in the
first quarter while Biology that includes lessons
about living things and their environment is
explored in quarter two.
Eyes
▪Sense of sight
▪Made to see the beauty of our surroundings.
▪The sense of sight helps us recognize each
other and learn about color, motion and
distance.
Iris
▪Colored portion of the
eye
▪Ring muscle fibers
located behind the
cornea and in front of
the lens.
Pupil
▪Hole in the center of
the iris that light
passes through
▪The iris muscles
control its size.
Sclera
▪White outer coat
enclosing the eyeball
except the part
covered by the cornea
Cornea
▪Clear layer at the
front center of the eye
that focuses light
before lens does so.
Retina
▪Instrument of vision by
receiving the image
formed by the lens and
converting it into
chemical and nervous
signals which reach the
brain by the way of the
optic nerve.
Optic Nerve
▪Carries electrical
signals from your
retina to your brain
so you can see.
Taking Care of our Eyes
▪Use good lighting to avoid tiring your eyes when
reading, writing or cruising the internet.
▪Tell your parents, school nurse or teachers if your
eyes are bothering you.
▪Wear proper eye protection when you are doing
hazardous hobbies, chores or mixing chemicals.
Taking Care of our Eyes

pencils and rulers.
▪Avoid guns, bow and arrows sling shots and
firecrackers.
▪Never look directly at the sun.
▪Point chemical sprays away from your face before
spraying.
Ears
▪Sense of hear
▪Made to receive sound waves that are sent out
by vibrating objects and convert them into
sensation we call sound.
Outer ear
Middle ear
Inner ear
Taking Care of our Ears
▪Clean the outside part of the ear with soap
and water.
▪Wipe the inside of the ear with cotton or soft
tissue.
▪Lower the volume of the radio when listening
to music.
