LESSON NO. & TITLE: Lesson 13: Access Point Configuration

III. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, students must be able to:
1. Define the uses of Access Point
2. Perform Access Point configuration

I. DISCUSSION:

What is Access Point?

An access point connects users to other users within the network


and also can serve as the point of interconnection between the WLAN
and a fixed wire network.

How to Install Access Point?

Installing access point is another convenient way to connect to the


internet/network and share resources.
Instructions on how to install Access Point:

1. Make sure that the computer, modem and access point are
disconnected from the power outlet.

2. Reconnect to the power outlet and turn on your computer, modem


and Access point.
3. To check if the network cable is properly connected, the Ethernet port
LED indicator of the Access point should turn green. Otherwise, check
if the network cable is properly inserted.

4. You may then proceed to configure your Access point. To do this,


please refer to the User's Manual on how to configure your access
point or follow these instructions.

5. Connect one end of networking cable from the Ethernet port of access
point and another end of networking cable to the LAN adapter of
laptop.

6. Access the router configuration panel through a web browser and on


the URL. Note: the IP Address 192.168.0.254 is intended for TPLink

7. Another panel will appear and prompt to enter user name and
password. Type the default username “admin” and default password
“admin” then Click on log in button.
8. The user will be logged to the access configuration panel and the user
will be guided to setup the device step-by-step in performing simple
configurations. On this panel click Next button

9. The user will be prompt to choose what type of Operation mode, for
this select Access Point as its operation mode then click Next.

10. Change the Wireless Network Name(SSID) and Wireless Password


through Wireless Setting panel. Change the SSID name to ex. Arvin
and Password to ex. cet@2016 then click Next.
11. On Network Setting panel click the Next button and will proceed
immediately on Finish panel then click on Reboot button to instantly
restart the access point.

12. After the “Configuration Completed Successfully” message from the


access point, unplug the networking cable attached to the laptop and
connect it to the Fast Ethernet port No. 1 of the router.

13. Search for the wireless network through notification area. Connect
the laptop from wireless network named Arvin, type in the WEP
password cet@2016 then click connect.
