Wifi Vendo Machine
Introduction
Vending machines can dispense chips, chocolates, sodas, water,

coffee, and many more. We even had charging kiosk at malls and
convenient stores plus piso-internet machines for cheap PC rental.
This time around, why don’t we aim higher. All you need is Internet
Connection to start your Wi-Fi Business now! You read it right!
The machine is PLUG and PLAY!
Machine Features
Paperless - No printer needed. Using our new system, you will never have problems associated
with voucher-based systems such as paper jams.
Plug and Play - Our machine is designed as Plug and Play for Easy to installation.
40 Meters WiFi Signal Coverage - Our machine has built-in Tenda Router F3 designed for
heavy concurrent traffic.
Universal Coin Acceptor - It accepts all types of coins using a muticoin acceptor.
Up to 200 Users - The machine can give out approximately 4000+ ip address each day with /20
netmask.
Low Cost Maintenance - 10W power consumption.
Mode of Income
You can earn from the wifi vendo machine by selling your existing internet connection through a
multicoin acceptor. Each coin value corresponds to a specific time limit for the user. For
example, $1 = 5mins, $5 = 30 mins and $10 = 1 hour. You can modify the time limit through the
easy to use web portal. The time limit is unique to each customer/device (mobile phone, laptop,
tablet) and cannot be shared. The time limit can be pause/resume if the user cannot consume
them right away.

Another option is to sell vouchers. Users can insert coins and the voucher will be shown to their
phone.
Parts and Materials
12 Volts (1.5 or 2 Ampere) DC power supply
5 Volts single channel relay optocoupler (Brand: Songle or any brand with the below wiring)
1k resistor for the LED

Stranded wire for connections (gauge 18)
Bi-color LED or two separate LEDs (Red and Green)

- Red for “coin acceptor not ready” and Green for “coin acceptor ready”. By design, the vendor
machine will reject all coins if the user hasn't pressed the INSERT COIN button on his mobile
phone.

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B or B+ with official 5V 3A power supply
4GB (or higher) Micro SD Card - class 6 or 10 (important) with Micro SD Card Reader
- The micro SD card must be of high quality. Use Sandisk Ultra or Samsung Evo
Optional Parts
- By default, the raspberry pi has its own built-in wifi with coverage up to 10 meters. If you want
to extend it using an external router, you need to buy the following parts.
USB 3.0 to LAN adapter

- The USB will be connected to the raspberry pi while the output will be connected to a LAN
cable going to the extender router.
External router
- Any external router is acceptable. We normally use is Tenda F3 wall killer due to its cheap
price and good performance.
Exhaust fan (120 mm CPU cooling fan - any brand but we use Kingbao)
- In case you are placing your wifi vendo into a non-air conditioned or outdoor places, you can
add an exhaust fan to “blow out” the hot air from the inside of the box.
Assembly
Step 1: Software Installation

Needed softwares:
● Download and install Etcher to your computer.

● Download the wifi image - wifi_image.img
After downloading the needed softwares, we need to flash the installer into the micro SD card
using Etcher. To do so, unzip the contents of the wifi image in zip files.
Insert the micro SD card into the your computer using a card reader.
Open Etcher and click Select Image.
Then select wifi_vendo.img from the zip file.

Make sure to select your micro SD card
Click the Flash! button and wait for the process to finish.
NOTE:
If you encounter prompts about formatting your sd card, just click Cancel.
Step 2: Configure The Machine
IMPORTANT:
Make sure you do the following before turning on the raspberry:
● Insert the SD card into the raspberry sd slot.

● Insert the LAN cable into the LAN port of raspberry pi and make sure it is connected to
the modem/internet.
Turn on the raspberry pi and wait for the WiFi network to appear in the mobile gadget, it may
take a couple of minutes.
Connect to the wifi network using your laptop or smartphone. Once connected, open a browser
and go to http://10.0.0.1/admin

Step 3: Connecting All Components
Connect all of the parts based on the below circuit diagram. Make sure to check the positive and
negative terminal of the 12V DC power supply for the coin acceptor to work properly.
Note: For the box enclosure, you can design it on your own based on your preference. We
usually use wooden box for easy installation then covers it with formica or paint it. You can also
put some stickers for the step-by-step user guide or your company name into it. In our case
we’re using the below dimension.
Flow
1. Turn on the wifi vendo machine.

2. The internet received by the raspberry pi through its LAN port will be shared to the USB
to LAN adaptor going to the router extender.
3. Users will then connect to the external router.
4. Once connected, their device (mobile phone, laptop, tablet) will open a web browser
automatically to the login page. User needs to press the INSERT COIN button then drop
the coins to the coin acceptor.
5. The coin acceptor will send the “pulse” signal to the raspberry pi which will save the
user’s device information and time limit. Users can now use the internet.
