Executive Summary

Business Overview

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery and Hog Services, located at

Zone2-Sta Clara, Angustia, Nabua, Camarines Sur, is a new agricultural

business focusing on providing hog supply in the market and services such as

artificial insemination (AI) and natural boar insemination for other sows in other

small backyard piggeries within the area. This business is a good idea to solve

the problem of hog meat supply in the country because of the African Swine

Fever (ASF). Many large piggeries were closed because of the infection which

almost made the population of swine into zero. Opening this new mini piggery

with modern techniques in farming with the mix of automation and advance

method of disinfection will prevent the infection and improves the profit of the

business.

Services

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery and Hog Services will offer the

market hog supply that is directly supplied to the slaughter houses that will

provide the community their needs. This business will also provide services for

the sow such as artificial insemination and natural boar insemination. These

services will help small backyard piggeries that depends on other boars to

impregnate their sows.

The piggery will serve so many people with regards to

supplying them the meat they demand. The priority of the piggery will be the

slaughter houses that greatly demands hog supply but private vendors of meat

that look for pig to be slaughtered will also be entertained. With regards to the

boar and AI service, all who demands the service will be entertained.

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery and Hog Services is uniquely

qualified to succeed due to the following reasons:

- The demand of meat in the market is very high which means the price is also

good. With that fact, the profit of the business is promising.

- Less number of competitors are to be expected because almost all of the large

piggeries were down and their function is suspended because of the African

Swine Fever that greatly hit the country.

- The company will use advance technology which will almost not require human

interaction with regards to the feeding and monitoring of the pigs. With this, the

possibility of infection due to human interaction will be lessened.

- Lastly, due to the objective of the piggery to help small backyard piggeries, the

company will gather positive feedbacks and will result to further profit increase.

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery and Hog Services, located at

Zone2-Sta Clara, Angustia, Nabua, Camarines Sur, is a new agricultural

business focusing on providing hog supply in the market and services such as

artificial insemination (AI) and natural boar insemination for other sows in other

small backyard piggeries within the area.

Business History

The business is inspired by the urge to help the country to

recover from the impact of the African Swine Fever. Due to the scarcity of the

meat that leads to the high price of pork in market, the urge to raise hogs is

intensified. Although the aim of the business is to gain profit, one also of the

objectives of the business is to help small backyard piggeries by providing them

AI and services.

Facility Design

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery and Hog Services will develop a 400

squared meter farm lot for the construction of the piggery. The piggery will be divided

into parts such as:

- Feeds storage room

- Fattening Area

- Breeding/Gestation Area

- Farrowing Area

- Weaning Area

- Weighing/ Releasing Area

The facility will have 2 parking areas dedicated for the releasing of the fatteners that

will be supplied to the costumer whether to the slaughter house or to the private

vendors.

The piggery will operate 24 hours a day for 7 days a week. This is because the hog

requires an all-time maintenance which includes the feeding and monitoring especially

for the new born gilts.

Industry Analysis

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery directly and indirectly competes with all hog

related business and services in a 15 mile radius.

Competition will come from all hog related businesses, both independent and

those associated with meat producing services.

Direct competition will come from large piggeries and other piggeries which

includes services related to breeding like artificial insemination and boar.

Generally, the real competition comes with those large piggeries which

produce hog supply to different customers. But with regards to those small

backyard piggeries, the competition will be lesser because the objective of the

business is to help them.

Demographic Profile of the Target Market

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery will serve the residents and costumers within the

15 mile radius which includes slaughter houses from Sto. Domingo public

market, Nabua Public market, Malawag mini talipapa, and all the private pork

vendors within the area. The trucking customers which also need hog to be

delivered outside of the region will be the second priority.

The area we serve is affluent and has the disposable income/profits required

to demand hog services and pork supply.

Direct and Indirect Competitors

The following hog related businesses are located within a 15 mile radius of

indirect competition for customers:

Billones Piggery- This is a huge piggery located at barangay Inapatan, Nabua,

Cam. Sur. This piggery is known for their large production of hog inside and

outside of the region. Their capacity is more than 500 hos which includes the

fatteners and the sows.

Manong’s Piggery- This piggery is located at barangay Angustia, Nabua, Cam.

Sur. This is a moderate sized piggery which can hold 100 hogs only. This

business is temporarily closed because all the swine in it were infected by the

African Swine Fever and is provoked of the license to operate for a year.

Tiaba’s boar and AI services- This is operated by the Tiaba brothers of

Dolorosa, Nabua, Camarines Sur. This is the leading business in terms of boar

and AI services within the area but many people cannot afford the price of their

because they utilize hybrid materials.

Small Backyard Piggeries- There are so many small backyard piggeries within

the 15 mile radius. Commonly, their capacity is up to 10 hogs only and they

depend on a small capital to operate.

over its competitors. These advantages include:

- Advance technology will be utilized in the mini piggery which will limit the

human interaction in the piggery itself. It lessens the chance of ASF infection

caused by human interaction. Less expense for labor will also be a great asset

because automatic feeding and monitoring system will be utilized.

- Since the business is new, there will be no provocation of license to operate due

to ASF infection unlike the other above mentioned large piggeries. This means

completed so many seminars that include the best way to operate a piggery. The

experience from the small backyard piggery will be the key for the business to

prosper.

- Since the management is in the field for an ample of time, the contacts from

large markets are already familiar with and there are trucking services that are

already linked to the name.

be individuals working within a 15-mile radius of its facility. The company’s

promotion strategies are as follows:

- Market visits will be performed so that the customers will be offered better

prices than their original suppliers.

- Free seminars for the inspiring hog raisers will be conducted to further gain trust

and to add more customers with regards to the boar and AI insemination.

- A radio add will soon be optimized once their will be enough fund for it to make

happen.

assure the profit but at the same time provide the customers the best price for

them to gain also. AI and Boar services will also be made affordable for those

starters in the hog raising business and also for the low capital hog raisers.

Operations Plan

Functional Roles

In order to execute on The Butaw’s Mini Piggery and Hog Services

business model, the company needs to perform many functions which includes

the administrative (Sales, Communication), Engineering (Design, rotation

schedule, sow selection), Maintenace (Feeding, Monitoring, Repair),and Delivery

(Boar service, market supply)

The business will start by the construction of the piggery itself. It includes the

building itself, the pig housing, watering system, farrowing pens, and many other

more. After the construction, the first step is the breeding which includes the

selection of sow and boar materials from other piggeries which will be used as

the foundation breeds of the piggery. These gilts will be selected for their best

characteristics to be boars and sows. After selection, the gilts will be raised and

in an estimate of 9 months, the first piglets will be born and they will be raised as

fatteners that will soon be the first products of the piggery. In those times, the

boars are already ready for service and the AI service will be now possible. The

initial 9 months are considered as preparation for the actual operation. After that,

income will already enter.

The business will start once the capital is already on hand and the

management team is already available.

Management Team Members

The Butaw’s Mini Piggery and Hog Services is led by Myk Angelo Tañamor

who has been in the hog raising business for 5 years.

Hiring Plan

Myk Angelo Tañamor will serve as the head and CEO of the business which

will be the one to decide and approve the designs and services provided by the

following:

Tiffany Parma (Head engineer)- She is the one to design the actual building to

serve as the piggery. She will also design in where to place the facilities and is

destined to monitor the maintenance of the said facilities. She is also the one to

design the automation of the piggery.

Humpbrey Soltes (Manager)- He is the one to manage the processes inside

the piggery. This includes the scheduling of the sows, the release of the hogs, and

all the other operations inside the piggery.

Aero Intia (Piggery Personnel)- since the piggery will utilize automation in

terms of feeding and monitoring, all he needs to do is to double check if the facilities

are functional. He has also the obligation to report the malfunctions inside the

piggery.

Carla Marie Tombado (Agricultural Technician)- She is the one responsible for

the health and welfare of the swine. She is also responsible for the gilt, sow, and

boar selection that will be used in the piggery. Administering of drugs and vaccines

of the swine will be performed by her.

Jay Cabaltera (Driver)- He is the one to drive the vehicle for the boar and AI

services. He is also the one to deliver the hog to the customers either in the

slaughter house or private meat vendors.
