PART-A
PART-B
PART-C
11. A stone of mass 0.25 kg tied to the end of a string is whirled round in a 3
circle of radius 1.5 m with a speed of 40 rev./min in a horizontal plane.
What is the tension in the string? What is the maximum speed with which
the stone can be whirled around if the string can withstand a maximum
tension of 200 N?
12. (i) Two blocks of mass 3 kg and 2 3
kg are in contact with each other on a
frictionless table. Find the force
exerted by the smaller block on
bigger block if a force of 5 N is
applied on the bigger block.
(ii) Two bodies of different masses ma and mb are dropped from same
height h. What is the ratio of the times taken by the two bodies to fall
through this distance?
13. What is a projectile? Derive the expressions for the time of flight, and 3
maximum height for the projectile thrown upwards at an angle θ with the
horizontal direction.
14. There are four forces acting at a point P 3
produced by strings which is at rest. Find the
forces F1 and F2.
15. Define Potential Energy. Show that the work done by an elastic force on a 3
spring is stored as the potential energy of the spring.
16. A bullet of mass 0.03 kg moving with a speed of 400 ms-1 penetrates 12 3
cms into a fixed block of wood. Calculate the average force exerted by the
wood on the bullet.
17. (i) What is the angle between the following pair of vectors? 3
A = î + ĵ + k , B = – 2î – 2ĵ – 2k
(ii) Two vectors both in equal magnitude, have their resultant equal in
magnitude of the either. Find the angle between the two vectors.
18. A projectile is fired horizontally with a velocity of 98 ms-1 from the top of a 3
hill 490 m high. Find:
(i) the velocity with which it strikes the ground.
(ii) the time is taken to reach the ground.
(iii) the distance of the target from the hill.
19. What is a conservative force? Prove that gravitational force is 3
conservative and frictional force is non-conservative.
20. 3
(i) The relationship between the force F and position x of a body is as
shown in
the figure.
The work
done in
displacing
the body from x=1m to x=5m will be
PART-D
23. A body of mass 2 kg initially at rest moves under the action of an applied 4
horizontal force of 7 N on a table with coefficient of kinetic friction = 0.1.
Compute the following:
(a) Work done by the applied force in 10 s,
(b) Work done by friction in 10 s,
(c) Work done by the net force on the body in 10 s,
(d) Change in kinetic energy of the body in 10 s,
PART-E
24. (i) State and prove parallelogram law of vector addition. Discuss some 5
special cases.
(ii) Two forces 20 N and 5 N are acting at an angle 120o between them.
Find the magnitude and direction of the resultant force.
25. (i) Derive an equation for the path of a projectile. 5
(ii) A body is projected with a velocity of 40 ms-1. After two seconds, it
crosses a verticle pole of 20.4 m. Find the angle of projection and the
horizontal range.
26. (i) State and prove conservation of energy. 5
(ii) A 4.0 kg slides with an initial speed of 3.0 m/s towards a spring on a
frictionless horizontal surface. When the box hits the spring, the spring
compresses and stops the box momentarily. The spring constant k = 125
N/m. How far does the spring compress?
