LESSON 7 Let’s Make Our Own Toys

In this lesson, you will learn about “Let’s Make Our Own Toy” through the
learning activities provided for you. The collection of the completed activities in
this lesson will be submitted at the end of the allotted period.

LET’S DISCOVER!

1
During the time of your grandparents, children make their own toys. They
make their own scooter, toy trucks, or tarak-tarak, and karang or kadang-kadang.
They also make their own slingshot (tirador), kite (sarangola), tops (trompo in
tagalog or kasing in Cebuano), shuttlecock (sipa or takyan), coconut leaf balls, and
yo-yo. Some children make their own paper dolls and mini-clay pots and pans
(palayok-palayukan).

Nowadays, many children do not know how to make toys anymore. Their
parents simply buy them plastic toys available in the malls and sidewalk stores.

Is there still value in knowing how to make one’s own toy?

LET’S WRAP UP!

Let us remember the following.

 Arts and crafts are activities that include carving, weaving, and molding of
original works with the use of hands.
 In designing 3-D crafts, shapes and textures are considered.
 3-D toys and crafts are favored by children because they can touch them and
can be held by their hands. It is important then to choose the type of material
that can effectively convey the texture of the subject.
