Please read this carefully !

This document contains your final exam in adv. SoM. The exam is to be solved at home on Friday
23rd of July.The exam paper will be released on Moodle at 1300 (1 pm) and briefly afterwards
saved here:

(should Moodle crash). Save the exam paper immediately once you have downloaded it.

Before the time expires at 1530 (2.5 hours after upload after upload), you must mail your results
to [email protected] by copying the content of pp. 2 (next page) into an
e-mail and fill out the form. DO NOT FORGET to fill in the text on the top with your name,
student ID and course of study. You are free to submit your answers from any e-mail account. If
you have a gmail, I tested that the format on pp. 2 works for copy-pasting (recommended)
Pp. 2 will be uploaded seperately in word-format for easy copy-pasting.

The content of the exam was developed for a 120 minutes timeframe and the remaining 30
minutes are added due to the lockdown and for you to have additional time to read, copy-paste
and mail the results.

The exam is multiple choice to be filled into the answer sheet on the following page. Please if
possible at all do this electronically and please try to avoid returning your answers in pdf
or as photo, but directly in the mail. Only return the answer sheet.

Problem 1
This problem concerns a pipe of length 𝐿 = 1200 𝑚𝑚 , wall thickness 𝑡 = 2 𝑚𝑚 and outer
diameter 𝑑 = (2𝛼 2 − 20𝛼 + 100)𝑚𝑚, in which 𝛼 is the third digit in your student ID (see figure
1.2). You are to calculate the value of 𝑑 in Q1.1. The pipe is rigidly connected to a wall in one end
(denoted point A), see figure 1.1.
The pipe is made of structural steel with elastic modulus 𝐸 = 210 𝐺𝑃𝑎 and shear modulus 𝐺 =
80 𝐺𝑃𝑎.

Problem 2: Build your problem
In this problem, a simply supported beam as shown in figure 2.1 below is considered.
In the following, the two last digits in your student ID (𝛽, 𝛾) will determine how the beam is
loaded along with the shape of the cross-section, see figure 2.2.

Define your problem:


Case 𝜷. 𝟏: If the 4th digit in your student ID is
smaller than five, 𝛽 < 5, the beam has a
hollow rectangular cross-section as shown in
the figure to the left.

Case 𝜷. 𝟐: If the 4th digit in your student ID is

The geometrical system parameters are for all cases given by


ℎ = 220 𝑚𝑚, 𝑏 = 110 𝑚𝑚, 𝑡 = 15 𝑚𝑚, 𝐿 = 4 𝑚.
For all cases, the load and material parameters are given by
𝑃 = 40 𝑘𝑁, 𝑁 = 100 𝑘𝑁, 𝑤 = 100 𝑁/𝑚𝑚 and elastic modulus 𝐸 = 210000 𝑁/𝑚𝑚2 .
Example: your professor had student ID 01821, i.e. 𝛽 = 2 and 𝛾 = 1. On this basis, the following
