The document describes a beam loaded with uniform and point loads. It asks to determine support reactions, draw bending moment and M/EI diagrams, and calculate slope and deflection at a point using moment area theorems. It also describes an indeterminate beam and asks to analyze it using slope deflection method to determine moments and reactions, and check column buckling.

Ql.

[25 Marks]
A beam is shown in Figure Q I. It is loaded with a uniformly distributed load of 10 kN/m
between A and B and has a point load at C. Joint A is a pin and B is a roller.

1. Determine all the support reactions.

H. Draw the bending moment diagram. Using bending moment diagram, draw the
M/EI diagram. You may assume EI is constant along the length of the beam.

Q3. (30 Marks]
Figure Q3 shows an indeterminate beam that is to be analysed using slope deflection method.
Supports A and D are fixed and B and C are roller. Flexural stiffness is EI for sections AB and
BC and 2EI for the section CD of the beam.

Note: E = 200 GPa and I= 800 x 106 mm"for the beam.

1. Determine the moments in the beam at A, B, C and D using slope deflection

method.

11. Find the vertical support reactions at A, B, C and D.

failure. Assume that the columns are ofUC sections 203 x 203 x 60 possessing
lxx = 6125 cm 4 and lyy = 2065 cm 4 (Young's modulus of 200 GPa can be
assumed for columns).

For the internal span of a beam shown in Figure AI, slope deflection relations can be expressed
using the following equations.

MAB = 2E ~ [ zeA + e8 - 3 ~] + (FEM)AB

MBA = 2E ~ [ 28s + 8A - 3 ~J + (FEM)sA
