This document summarizes an experiment on a half-wave rectification circuit with a filter. The circuit includes a transformer, diode, resistor and capacitor. The objective is to plot the output waveform of the half-wave rectifier. A diagram of the circuit is provided. The introduction explains that rectifiers convert AC to DC, with half-wave rectifiers only conducting on one half of the AC cycle. Filters are used to smooth the pulsating DC output into a constant DC. The output graph shows the results of the experiment. The conclusion is that half-wave and full-wave rectifier circuits were built and their outputs measured, helping to understand rectifiers' important role in converting AC to DC for industrial applications.

Introduction: The process of converting an alternating current into direct

current is known as rectification. The unidirectional conduction property of
semiconductor diodes (junction diodes) is used for rectification. Rectifiers are of two
types: Half wave rectifier and Full wave rectifier. In a half wave rectifier circuit
during the positive half-cycle of the input, the diode is forward biased and conducts.
Current flows through the load and a voltage is developed across it. During the
negative half-cycle, it is reverse bias and does not conduct. Therefore, in the negative
half cycle of the supply, no current flows in the load resistor as no voltage appears
across it. Thus the dc voltage across the load is sinusoidal for the first half cycle only
and a pure a.c. input signal is converted into a unidirectional pulsating output signal.
The half wave rectifier converts the Alternating Current (AC) into Direct Current
(DC). But the obtained Direct Current (DC) at the output is not a pure Direct Current
(DC). It is a pulsating Direct Current (DC) we need a Direct Current (DC) that does
not fluctuate with respect to time. The only solution for this is smoothing the
fluctuating Direct Current (DC). This can be achieved by using a device called filter.
Filter: Filters are components used to convert (smoothen) pulsating DC waveforms
into constant DC waveforms. By using filters we can create constant DC current
which is used in real life.

CONCLUSION: As conclusion, we can conclude that half-wave and full-
wave rectifier circuits can be built. It can measure and record their output voltages
and curves systematically. Next, the influences of load resistor and capacitor on
DC output voltage is investigate. Half- and full-wave rectifiers are used to
convert AC into DC voltage. This is the primary function of the rectifier in
industrial applications. For example, AC is used across the power grid, but to use
electricity for welding, electroplating and as a DC source for motors with special
speed controls, the AC must be changed to DC. Therefore, it is importance to
carried out this experiment to increase the understanding on rectifier in industries.
