I. INRODUCTION

Zigbee is a recently developed wireless technology

used in many commercial and research applications.
Based on the IEEE 802.15.4 specification, it has
become a very attractive wireless connectivity
solution due to its open standard, low cost and low
power characteristics. Zigbee is suitable for low
data-rate and low power consumption applications
in comparison with other wireless technologies such
as Bluetooth and WiFi. Applications include home
and building automation, industrial control, building
management systems, environmental monitoring,
vehicle fleet management systems etc. Zigbee is an
important component in the fieeld of electronics
engineering .which is used for transmission and
reception of the data

A. System Operation:

There are two modules in our block diagram

(module1 and module2), now module 1 we will be
installed at the entrance gate and module 2 will be
installed inside the vehicle.

Now when a car comes at the entrance, the ZIGBEE

module in the car will send the unique code of that
ZIGBEE network to module at the entrance. If the
code is matched, then the vehicle is identified.

Next, the module at the entrance asks the driver to

enter password. This message is displayed on the
LCD display and driver has to enter the password Fig.2 UART data flow
through keypad. The entered password is serially
transmitted via ZIGBEE to module at the entrance. Data enters the module UART through the DIN (pin 3) as
The received password is compared with actual an asynchronous serial signal. The signal should idle high

microcontroller. If the password is matched then of a start bit (low), 8 data bits (least significant bit first) and
driver is authenticated. a stop bit (high). The following figure illustrates the serial
bit pattern of data passing through the module.
Now once both the vehicle identification is and the
driver authentication has been done, this information
is sent by the system to the security guard at the gate.
According to this information the guard allows or
deniesaccess to the vehicle inside the premises.
B. Overview of ZIGBEE module Operation:

The XBee RF Modules interface to a host device

through a logic-level asynchronous serial port.
Through its serial port, the module can communicate
with any logic and voltage compatible UART; or
through a level translator to any serial device (for
example: through a RS-232 or USB interface board).

Devices that have a UART interface can connect

directly to the pins of the RF module as shown in the Fig.3 Serial bit pattern
figure below.
III. SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION
Microcontroller Circuit:

The microcontroller circuit interfaces with the RF

transceiver and controls the operation of the Zigbee device.
Microcontroller P89V51RD2 is used in the design & it
houses program required for communication with RF
transceiver & perform other routines of the device such as
taking inputs from the numerical keypad, displaying
messages on LCD display.

Voltage Regulator Circuit:

As the microcontroller requires 5V DC supply, an

adapter is used which provides constant 5V supply to
the PCB. This adapteris powered by the car battery.

The zigbee module requires a 3.3V supply, a simple

voltage divider is designed for that purpose. Fig.5 Flowchart for operation of system
