Introductory Message
Welcome to Mathematics 10!
The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts
of the Schools Division of Guimaras and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western
Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division
(CLMD). This is developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers,
parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners meet the standards
set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.
The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials
aimed to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and
time using the contextualized resources in the community. This will also
assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and
attitudes for productivity and employment.
For learning facilitator:
The Mathematics 10 Learning Activity Sheet will help you facilitate
the teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning
Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you
and learner. This will be made available to the learners with the
references/links to ease the independent learning.
For the learner:
The Mathematics 10 Learning Activity Sheet is developed to help
you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material
provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent
learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the
instructions then perform the activities and answer the assessments. This
will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

Solving Problem Involving Polynomial Functions
I. Learning Competency with Code
Solve problem involving polynomial functions M10AL-IIb-2
II. Background Information for Learners
In your previous lesson, you have learned about what polynomial
functions are, their characteristics, and the features of their graph. Moreover,
your knowledge and skills on how to factor and solve for the roots of
polynomial equations using the Synthetic Division by applying the different
theorems such as Factor Theorem, Remainder Theorem, and Rational Root
Theorem are necessary. Solving real-life problems involving polynomial
functions requires such concepts. Hence, you will learn to appreciate the
importance of polynomial functions in a real-life situation.
Here are the procedures in solving problems involving polynomial
functions.
A. Transform the polynomial to its standard form.
B. Find the solution of the obtained equation using any of the
methods: long division or synthetic division and apply the
remainder theorem, the factor theorem, and rational root
theorem.
C. Check whether the obtained values make the equation true.
D. Formulate your answer based on the obtained values.
Example:
A generator is a machine that produces very high voltages by using
small, safe levels of electric current. One machine has a current that can be
modeled by I(t) = t + 2, where t > 0 represents time in seconds. The power of
the system can be modeled P(t) = 0.5t3 + 6t2 + 10 t. Write an expression that
represents the voltage of the system.
Formula: Current I(t) = t + 2, where t > 0
Power System P(t) = 0.5t3 + 6t2 + 10t
Problem: What expression represents the voltage (V) of the system?
Solution: The voltage V is related to current I and power P by the
Equation.
Voltage (V) = 𝑃
𝐼
1
A. The polynomial P(t) = 0.5t3 + 6t2 + 10t is already in its standard
form.
B. Find the solution of the obtained quadratic equation by using
synthetic division.
1. Substitute the given to V = 𝑃.
𝐼
0.5t³ + 6t² + 10t
V=
t+2
2. Using synthetic division.
-2 0.5 6 10 0
-1 -10 0
0.5 5 0 0
The remainder is zero. Therefore, t + 2 is a factor and
0.5t2 + 5t = 0 is the depressed equation of the
polynomial P(t) = 0.5t3 + 6t2 + 10t.
C. Check whether the obtained values make the equation true.
If t = -2, then the divisor is t + 2 multiply to 0.5t2 + 5t.
P(t) = 0.5t3 + 6t2 + 10t
D. Formulate your answer based on the obtained values.
ANSWER: The expression that represents the voltage is V(t) = 0.5t2 + 5t.
