Hello learner!
In this learning activity, you should be able to Identify
examples of operating systems.

Examples of Operating System

Operating System (OS) is the important software that makes a


computer work. It controls the hardware devices. It also allows the
software in the computer to run. Without the operating system,
these devices and programs will not work in the computer.

Windows is an operating system from Microsoft Corporation. It has


an interface, which is a system designed into a computer, so
people can easily interact through different features.
Windows Operating System Designed for Personal Computers (PCs)
and Laptops

Windows 1.0 (1985) – It allowed users to point and click


to access the windows.

Windows 3.1 (1992) – It supported better icons and


program manager.

Windows 95 (August 1995) – It had automatic detection


and configuration of equipment (Plug and Play).

Windows XP (October 2001) – It has a better look and feel


and gives users more stable and reliable environment.

Windows Vista (November 2006) – It simplifies and


centralizes desktop configuration management,
reducing the cost of keeping systems updated. It also
offers advancement in reliability, security, ease of
deployment, performance and manageability over
Windows XP.

Windows 7 (October 2009) – It includes multi-touch


support, improved performance and start-up-time,
support for virtual hard disks, a new and improved
Window Media Center and improved security.

Windows 8 (August 2012) – It is a completely redesigned


operating system that was developed with touch screen
use in mind and enables to load better and start up fast.

Windows 10 (July 2015) – It has fast start-up and resume,


with built-in security and return of Start Menu.
