And Personal: Up Close

The document provides requirements and guidance for an art project involving drawing the same object or animal from 12 different close-up perspectives. Students must choose one subject to draw in each of 12 boxes on a sheet of paper from views where the entire subject is not visible. They should use shading to include all 10 values of a monochromatic color scheme. The drawings should demonstrate variety in viewpoint through cropping and composition. A rubric evaluates choice of subject, number of drawings, use of values, composition, neatness and effort.

Notes

Value is...
An element of art & is the gradual change of lightness or darkness of a color. It is created
when a light source shines upon an object creating highlights, form shadows & cast
shadows.

We can use value by shading our drawings with a pencil or color pencil in a
MONOCHROMATIC color scheme

And using something called a value scale or grayscale to gauge how light or dark it is.
There are 10 values on the value scale (including white), using a Monochromatic value scale
means you are using ONE COLOR.

Variety is...
A principle of design, it means that there are different versions of things in a work of art.
Variety can also be a combination of one or more elements & principles

For example: In Piet Mondrion’s work Broadway Boogie
Woogie, you can see variety in the size, shape and color of
each box.

You will be using variety in your artwork by changing the
perspective (view) of each mini drawing to create a varied
composition

Cropping is…
the removal of unwanted outer areas from a
photographic or illustrated image. You are making it
more visually interesting by focusing on the area that
is important.
