FORMULATING EVALUATIVE STATEMENT
A. Evaluating Assertions from the text
Statement of fact:
Filipinos are setting up community pantries to aid those left most vulnerable by the pandemic.
Statement of opinion:
As of April 19, there is a growing list of 28 active community pantries across the Philippines, the community pantry
has helped 5,000 beneficiaries as of this writing.
B. Formulating Counterclaims
The claim in the text:
The Filipinos sets up community pantries to invite people to go and give what they can, take what they need because
“In the absence of good governance, tanging tayong mga ordinaryong Pilipino nalang ang magtutulungan”.
Reason:
Community pantries are a wonderful result of altruism, compassion and Bayanihan spirit, but right now they are also
one more sign of Filipinos supporting other Filipinos who bear the brunt of government failures.
"Kumuha ayon sa pangangailangan, Magbigay batay sa kakayahan"
My counterclaim:
Going to community Pantries may cause the increasing rate number of Covid-19 positive if the owner of the pantries
or the barangay locals won’t take action about reminding the people who are planning to go on Community Pantries
near them about the proper wear of PPE, keep 1m (3 feet) apart from each other and make sure that everything on the
pantry is disinfected to prevent people from getting infected of the Virus.
Reason:
In Philippines, from 3 January 2020 to 22 May 2021, there have been 1,171,403 confirmed cases of COVID-19
with 19,763 deaths. It has been hard for all of us Filipinos to fight this Virus and putting up a community pantry
“MIGHT” make it even worse. Don’t get me wrong, I agree/favored on this idea. I think that this will help a lot of
Filipinos and that this would be also an advantage for the other Filipinos who are looking on how to help their
Kababayan willingly. I just think that the they should be following the safety protocol so that their Community Pantry
won’t be the cause of the increasing number of positive in COVID-19
