Esha Saha: Carlosfranco A

This document summarizes key points from 5 different research studies on inventory management and risk management in healthcare and pharmaceutical supply chains. The studies used methods like descriptive cross-sectional research, surveys, interviews, and modeling to understand inventory practices, availability of medicines, optimization of decisions, and common risks faced by healthcare organizations. The goal was to determine best practices for inventory control and creating a standardized risk inventory to help healthcare organizations.

Summary

 A Markov Decision Process model is developed for determining the optimal inventory control
policy for medicines under stochastic and non-stationary demand scenario.
 Solving the problem by a stochastic dynamic programming approach, the results as obtained
demonstrate that the proposed inventory model

 This research sought to determine the influence of inventory management practices on

availability of medicines. Descriptive cross sectional research design was used.
 Semi structured questionnaires; in-depth interview guides and a checklist were data collection
tools. Analysis of data was done using descriptive statistics while Chi square was used as
appropriate.
 In this, FEFO (first in first out) method of issuing medicines reported to be popular by 62.5%
of respondents compared to 37.5% for FIFO (first expiry first out).

 In this paper, a simulation-optimization approach based on the stochastic counterpart or

sample path method is used for optimizing tactical and operative decisions in the
pharmaceutical supply chain.
 Two mixed integer programming (MIP) models are formulated, these models correspond to
the stochastic counterpart approximating problems.
 The first model considers expiration dates, the service level required etc while The second
model is a bi-objective optimization model solved with the epsilon-constraint method. This
model determines the maximum acceptable expiration date, thereby minimizing the total
amount of expired medicines.

 Institution based cross sectional survey was conducted among six HCs in Adama Town from
March 19 to April 12, 2017. Self-administered questionnaire and observational checklists
were used to collect quantitative information.
 Eleven tracer drugs (TDs) that were selected by the Federal ministry of health and included in
the TD list of the HCs were used to assess the availability of EMs at the time of the survey;
and during the past 12 months.
 The data were entered and analyzed using SPSS version 21. The accuracy of record keeping
was assessed using inventory management assessment tool (IMAT) indicators.

 The objective of this research is to develop an enterprise risk inventory for healthcare
organizations to create a common understanding of how each type of risk impacts a
healthcare organization.
 ERM guidelines and data from 15 interviews with chief risk officers were analyzed to
create the risk inventory.
 The identified risks were confirmed through a survey of risk managers from a range of
global healthcare organizations during the ASHRM conference in 2017.
 Descriptive statistics were developed and cluster analysis was performed using the survey
results.
